Do you use these things to set bearing seals?

Am I missing something?

I am replacing my rear wheel axle seals: do I need to use a "speedi sleeve"?

speedi sleeves are used when...

the surface that the oil seal lip rides on is worn and has a groove from the seal in that area and oil weeps out. I have installed a few on harmonic balancers on small block Mopars. It saves from having to get the sealing surface machined which can be pricey and cause downtime. They work quite well.

Tho you must install them squarely on the shaft/surface or it'll ruin the new seal.

I'm thinking of the thin metal seal savers or something like that. It gives the oil seal a new surface to ride on.

Are you referring to the plastic sleeves to protect the seal lip during installation?I've used them when replacing valve stem oil seals.

Hope this helps

Speedi Sleeves

What Phil said - They are used to repair a scored sealing surface. I used them on my boat trailer which had grooves in the axle spindles from years of neglect and sand.

If your seal surface looks bad then yes you may need a speedi sleeve.
