Members, a few questions to rack your brains.
First some stats on the truck; '93 D350 Club cab, Getrag 5-speed 130,000 miles, no engine mods... . YET!!!
1)The speedometer seems to be on some weird drugs. I don't think that it is very accurate, but the real problem is that when you lift your foot off the accelerater pedal it will drop down to 30mph or thereabouts. Then, when you reapply pressure to it it will go back up to its (I hope) correct reading. Maybe a speed sensor?
2)The cruise control also acts up. It seems like when I hit a bump it will lunge foward, then slow down , then lunge foward again. It will do this very rapidly until it settles down... then do it again. I think this might be working in conjuction with my speedometer.
3)The windsheild wipers are another problematic area. They work fine on low and high, but not on intermittent. They won't work at all on intermittent. I have checked the connections as Hayes Service Manual said so and a '94 Dodge Service Manual, I seem to remember that one of the connections wasn't reading what it was supposed to. Also, they will stop wherever they are when you turn the switch off, instead of returning to their home position at the bottom of the windsheild. How do you fix it, what parts do I need?
4)Lastly, I would like to purchase some gauges as funds permit. My question is, what kind of gauges do you members have and how do you like them. I want a Tach, Boost, and Pryo, that is at the moment anyway.

I love the truck more that any of these small things, but giving attention to them is my number one priority. Thank you very, very much for any responses.

Chris you don't mention if its 2x4 or 4x4. The distance (speed) sensor on 2x4 is located on the left side of getrag toward the back,on 4x4 its on the left side of the transfer case toward the back. There is a distance sensor bolted to an adapter thats bolted to a driven gear. Clean conector, if it is still not working take the three pieces off check gear teeth condition on driven gear. If the gear looks good bolt adapter and driven gear together turn the gear and the other end of adapter should turn with no slop. If this looks good then the distance sensor is probably the problem.
The wiper problem, there is two different wiper circuits in the wiper motor one for low/high speed and the other for park and intermittent wipe. Clean the connector,if still bad run external ground to motor and try. If it still isn't working I think the motor is bad. Good luck.

Thanks for the info, I will get to work on that first thing tomorrow. The truck is 2wd.
I think that I checked the circuits, both of them, but the ground to the motor is a great idea. Thanks again.

Chris this to answer your question about gauges. Dodge wired the truck for a tach that they offer thur their mopar performance catalog. Pn for the 92-93 trucks is 82400711.
I'm using their gauge for the tach. A Isspro gauge for the exhuast gas temps. VDO gauges for turbo boost, oil press, oil temp, water temp, and trans temp. A Westach gauge for front and rear diff temps and transfer case temp. There is a lot of good gauge companies out there I suggest going to their web site and requesting their catalogs. Good luck.

Chris, sounds like you've got some pesky problems, 1)the speed sensor is indeed inserted into an adapter, it has a male square tip like a speedo cable, and I ve seen two of them round off (or strip) in customers vehicles as if the sensor was getting tight. if this is the case, replace the sensor and gear or you will ruin a new sensor(that was the first one I had) the new sensor comes with a new style plug that muse be spliced in. 2) The cruise servo is likely jerking the throttle, and in a man trans truck with a touchy throttle (like ours) will set off that ripple. I don't know what to reccomend, except make sure there is no slop anywhere in the servo or linkage. 3)sounds like the wiper motor is not "parking" if you turn the wipers on and off quickly, they should cycle once, then park. If not, the motor is likely bad. 4)I have the banks 4 pod setup in my '92 and really like it. I got mine from Diesel injection service in TX. along with a isspro tach, boost, auto trans temp. I just got the macthing pyro for X-mas and can't wait to put it in! and that fills the last hole. I also got a grant wheel. I will take pic's when done. Lastly, get a factory shop manual, if you plan to keep the truck, it will bail you out.

Members, thanks for the feedback!
I've gotten a few responses on the speedo problem, and have checked them out in my transmission. The only problem is that I haven't got a test drive in yet. As soon as I go for the test drive I'll post my findings.
Thanks for the input on the gauges, keep them comming. As soon as I get the cash, gauges will be my next addition. And the info about the truck being wired for the tach is a godsend!
I've got that goofy Hayes Manual, left over from my last truck ('88 D100 318 160,000 miles) but I guess that I'll have to purchase the manual from Dodge, unless someone has one they would like to get rid of? Thanks again!

Good News!, I have cured my speedometer problem and cruise control. By tightening the nut on the tailshaft and the nut on the end of the speedometer adapter the speedometer is as steady as a rock. Now the cruise control works in harmony with the speedo.
As for the windsheild wipers I'm baffled. Today was the first time that it has rained in a while (pretty dry in St. Louis) so I used my wipers. Before I had even moved I decided to clear the windshield, I turned the switch so that they would come on and then turned them off on the way back down. To my suprise they went the rest of the way down (instead of stopping right then and there) and stopped and stayed at park! So I tried it again, it worked! So I tried it again, this time it returned to its old habits. Well the heck with it right now, I'm going to have to get over the fact that my speedometer works before I get mad at the wipers!
Just to remind you, responses are very welcomed and appreciated, and thanks for the ones so far.
Chris
