I read a few weeks back that someone took their pickup to the stealer and had them look up how to reprogram the PCM for larger wheels and tires. Now my question is: can they only adjust to accomondate the combos that are available for the truck from the factory or can they adjust for after market tires also?

TIA Phil :D

I know that the dealer can do it but I am not sure that I would have the dealer do this. I know that I could have had them do the change for my 4. 10 gears and maybe for the 36 inch tires but I do not know if they can adjust it that far.

I would get an elecronic ratio adaptor. I have seen some in the $80 range. That is much better than the $170 I paid for mine that has the cool Superlift sticker on it.

Its a simple 4 wire hook up and takes maybe 30 minutes.

I tried this with my 98 gasser, the dealer could only change between the factory tire sizes (265/75 max). I don' t believe axle ratio could even be changed.

I called my dealer the other day after installing 315's and asked about reprogramming for larger tire sizes and I was told that it could not be done. I don't think I'll take my truck to them for ANYTHING! Now, can this be done with the DRB tool? I have a friend who has one.

Rballard is correct. The dealer can only set it other stick tire sizes. The best option is to buy one of the aftermarket adjusters from abbot or Rickson... or whoever.

they can set other tire sizes.....

You just have to tell them how many revolutions per mile. There is a pretty limited range that the computer will accept, though, at least on my 98. 5. I went from the stock 245s to a 265 and I think even that was too low! I had them put in the lowest number they could, but it still seems to be a little off - not so much that I worry about it.
