Are these things likely to go bad, and cause an accurate speed reading but create odometer readings? I was wondering about this after reading something regarding how fast these things wear out in the TDR mag.

Thanks,

Russell

I am not sure about wearing out but I have lost one in the 100+ degree part of the summer. (actually most of it is) It would run along and suddenly both speedo and odometer would quit. It did that a few times and then just quit completely.

I asked the parts man if this was a common failure. He hemmed and hawed and said they sell quite a few.

I had a problem with mine and it was the square drive tang on the adapter that was worn and slipping in the hex socket of the adapter, JB weld locked it in place, 1 1/2 years later still working great!

I can't answer your question but I do know they can loosen and fall off. Mine did (came apart from cable and transmission at the same time  ) but amazingly it fell on the crossmember and stayed there for 150 miles before I discovered it.

Make sure its snug. :)

Had one go out on my 92 at 1500mi dealer put in new one no more problems. They did "test the old one" hooked it up to an air drill and everything looked ok it just would not work on the truck.
