Speedometer Blues

Anyone else out ther have trouble with their speedometer-I have replaced the distance sensor twice in the last 80K. The speedometer starts reading erratic, fluttering from the actual speed to much higher, lower and back. This is like a gremlin in my truck. I have each of my batteries with a chassis ground as well as a block ground, so I doubt this is a gound problem, but it sure seems like a short of some type. I replaced the distance sensor adaptor with a sterwart warner setup a few years ago when I discovered my tire size was causing innacurate readings, but the OEM chrysler distance sensor hooks straight up to this at the transfer case. Anyone with a suggestion as to where to start looking would be greatly appreciated.

If you hav'nt tried already, replace the actual sending unit, 60 buck from the dealer this took care of my truck when it had the same problem, i also tried the gear with no luck ... ..... Rick

Mine speedo just started to do the same thing and my cruise control surges too. Please let the list know if you figure out what the fix is!!!

Thats what mine does when it starts to go out. I have replaced three in three years now. The dodge dealer did warranty the second one.

Hey Guys
If you are running a Getrash (I just switched to the NV4500) your problem could be the nut that holds the output shaft on to the back of the transmission. This nut also acts as a jamb nut that holds the speedometer drive gear from moving. The torque spec on this nut is very high I will try to get it if you want. If you have a tech manual it is in there.
