I have read a few posts and seems some people use the Electronic Ratio Adapter (ERA) from Abbotts or the TruSpeed Speedometer Calibrator when changing tire sizes. Are there any differences in quality or options between the two? What is your preference? Called the dealer and they wanted $95. 00 to reprogram my system. So I figure the money would be better spent on a calibrator. Thank you in advance for your input, Tony.

I used the Superchip programer to recalibrate mine. Not as much power as the "boxes" but works as a code reader/clearer,speedo calibrater and power tuner for around $325

I had the dealer do it, cost me nothing. Some have said they have been charged 30 bucks most to have it done. Very simple to do actually. All you need is the revolutions per mile, they can enter that under the "other size" menu on the programmer. I believe this only works on 98+ models though.

Tony,

That dealer is trying to rip you off. It is a five minute job to recalibrate the speedo. Typically they charge half hour of labor to do it. All you have to do is provide them the revolutions per mile and they enter it into the computer. Mine was reading 10% high before I took it to the dealer. Now, it is dead-on accurate. They charged me $40. 00. It is a permanent fix while the Speedometer Calibrator boxes can go kaputs. Then you have to buy another one and run the risk of it going kaputs.

If I were you, I would find another dealer to recalibrate the speedo for you.

Jay; Thank you for the info. I will have to call a couple of other dealers in Vegas and get a quote. New it was too high of a quote from the first dealer. I am going from 245's to 285's and figured getting the computer recal'd would be cheaper. But after the first quote, figured a more versitile solution (future tire size changes), would be a Cal Box. Just worried about the quality and durability. I've worked military avionics for over 17 years and have seen what vibrations and heat can do to PCB components over time. And wonder if these companies making these Cal Boxes take vibrations/getting jarred around and thermal damage into consideration.

Anyone else out there with good or bad experiance with Speedo Cal Boxes?

Tony,

JSykes is right, find another dealer. I had mine recalibrated by the local dealer and it also only took them 5 min. to do. They charged me $45. 00 which is 1/2 hour and their min. charge out. I got the revs. per mile of my 33" 285x75x16's mud-terrains of of the BF Goodrich tire site and took that in with me. My brother in-law, who sold me the truck, said they would have recalibrated it for free at their dealership but it was a longer drive for me.

I'm going to 19. 5 tires and wheels anybody know if they can calibrate for these. Thank you, Ed

I have read from someone who posted that 305/ (70 or 75?)/16's were the largest. But I would call the dealer and find out. I think you will need your revolutions per mile, too.

Anyone out there who is using the calibration boxes had problems with them?

The stock PCM can go as low as 440 Rev Per Mile... . that is around a 44" tire... I think your safe... :-laf
