Where is the best place to get new speedometer gear that goes in transmission for switching tire sizes and what is the correct name for it?

Dealer item.
The Vehicle Speed Sensor is the signal device to the PCM that is driven by the
"speedometer pinion gear adaptor".
The parts guy should have a list of tire options with different speedo gears.

This is located on the extension housing of the transmission on the driver's side. or on a 4X4, on the transfer case extension housing.

It's speed sensor generates 8 pulses per sensor revolution to determine vehicle speed and distance traveled. It also helps to control cruise control, transmission overdrive operation and torque converter electrical operation.

These signals working with the closed throttle signal from the tps, indicate a closed throttle decelaeration to the PCM. The PCM then adjusts idle air control for desired MAP value.
