My axle u joints are going bad. I want to replace them with Spicer brand but, am having a hard time finding them. Rock auto does'nt even sell axle u joints only drive shaft joints. Does anyone know what brand the OEM part is. They should last longer than 54k miles. Who else makes a good quality joint? thanks, Doug

I stand corrected. Thanks, Jason. I even called Rock Auto and they said they have no listing for that part. I would still prefer Spicer joints but at least I now know about the precision's thanks again, Doug

OEM are AAM, useless non greasable, I replaced mine with Neapco, direct greasble replacment, PN 2-0054. Mine went out at just about the same mileage as yours, the front one was actually not that bad, the rear one was toast.

I had 2 caps that had a little grease left in them at 80,300

Dont know where you live. That being said; Call Drive Train Industries, In Denver, Colorado. They may be able to get you to a supplier in your area and the part numbers? Phone number is; 303. 292. 5176-parts, 303. 292. 2200-shop. Hope this is helpful. GregH

thanks guys, I found out that Spicer is not available for this application because they were not the OEM supplier. I'm going with Neapco joints. They are made in the US and suppose to be second only to Spicer interms of quality. they are pricey at $60 a piece but when you consider how much work you have to go through to change them out, I think its worth it. thanks for all the input guys. Doug

When I had mine done they charged me $18 each for U joints and $24 for labor, it took them about 15 minutes. I would double check what your shop is doing it is a very easy job.

That's all find and dandy if he was going to replaced the Drive shaft u-joints. Even then I wouldn't run an $18 u-joint with 955# of TQ.

How ever axle u-joints are a completely different monster, involves pulling the wheel, hub assembly apart to get at the shafts in the axle tubing. about 2. 5 hours if you are LUCKY to not have any major rust in the way slowing things down.

My bad, I did not realize that was the U joint being described.

DBhol, please post if those neapco 2-0054 fit your front axle stubs,I just put them on my rear driveshaft, but there was no neapco listing for the front axle joints. thanx

The neapco joints I bought for the front axle have a different part # . I don't remember it off hand but I will post it later today or tomorrow. I just ordered the OTC 6290 hub puller today and will be doing this job during the week as time permits. I have everything apart as far as I can and soaking in pb blaster and kroil (rust belt) I did this job on my 94 twice. the first time was a real bear but after using neversieze I was able to take it apart the second time using a rubber dead blow hammer. Doug

CarlsonR, the Neapco axle u joint that I bought is part # 3-0485. It is a beefy, triple sealed, shielded, ( metal shields that protect the seals ) non greaseable joint. I'm going to regrease mine with a synthetic grease before I install. Doug
