Filter Question for Amsoilman

This product was a fast-moving discussion several months ago. Never heard anymore about it. Has anyone purchased one? The model for the Ram/Cummins is 25-4CV, which retails for $252 including s/h from www.oil-tech.com . I would like to hear first-hand experiences if possible. What are others thoughts of this product? We already know about the Amsoil bypass product, which I've already tried #ad
.

Mike:

I run an Amsoil BP filter on my truck but I am not one of their dealers and I consider myself open minded on the subject of oil.

As I recall, the reason you didn't like their bypass filter was that it didn't prevent your oil from discoloring. Was there another reason? The reason I'm asking is because I've never heard it said that discoloration is synonomous with contamination. I'd appreciate any information you may have about the quality of their bypass filter as this is the only filter they make themselves.

One thing I don't want out of this discussion is another protracted thread on the pros/cons of Amsoil or other synthetic oils... that's yesterday's news as far as I'm concerned. Hope you agree.

EZ94,
I don't want to make this an Amsoil commercial either, but yes my oil turned pitch black very quickly (on a new truck). I had the dual remote bypass unit, and one of the hoses got hot and melted on the outside. No harm done, but gave me enough reason to yank it. I guess it's okay, but I wouldn't spend the money on another one. The Spinner II Centrifuge is what I'm interested in knowing about. Any information would help, good/bad.

Thanks,
Michael

Not too sure about this companys product, but I just started building them and putting them on some of engines at work (CAT). I took a walk to the test area after one had been ran and tore into it. Did not see anything that caught my eye from an hour of run time. I did ask around, and they seem to help out quite a bit. Not sure about the discoloration you asked about. I dont think changing oil filters every day will keep the oil from changing its colors.

MichaelT,
The hose getting hot and melting is an installation problem. This is why I recommend the single by-pass unit on the Dodge/Cummins applications, as it only requires small lines, with only one of them under pressure. The lines are also much shorter.

However, anytime one installs an external oil line, they must make sure the line does not come in contact with anything.

Best regards,

Wayne

Sorry... I re-formatted my H. D. since I got a reply to an e-mail to the manufacturer of the SpinnerII. .

It looks like . . there will be a KIT in the future for putting a SpinnerII into our trucks...

I was interested. . but when I saw that the unit needed to be side mounted... and that it needed a secondary port to pull the oil from the crankcase I began to loose interest. .

I'm sure that, like myself, many others out there use there trucks everyday... and don't see pulling the oil pan to braze a fitting as an acceptable way to mount the unit!!!!

The device still has my interest... and I am waiting for the "Kit" to come out ...

try to e-mail the company yourself... . the reply took a while . . but it was informative.

goto www.oil-tech.com and look around...

I e-mailed oil-tech several months ago. They said the model 25-4CV works with the Dodge/Cummins. You take the oil from the bypass port at the oil filter location, and return the oil using a T where the turbo return oil enters the crankcase. I don't see where that's a big deal. No drilling into the crankcase, as the hole is already there. I just need to spend the $252 and buy one. Oil-tech said they have been installed in Dodge Rams with the Cummins engine. I don't know about the kit you're talking about. I wander if has to do with a mounting bracket or something.
