So that Cummins fitting just press-fits into the block? Is it a tight fit?

For those without a welder (like me), I'd bet you could solder the necessary parts together instead.

It is a press fit :) Steel to Stainless won't solder. I guess what I ought to do is see how many of these I can get my hands on and make up a few to sell. Just an idea.

I'd buy one in a New York Minute!! :-laf

This will give you an idea of how it goes together. The barb fitting is about $11 bucks worth of stainless steel. I would venture to say that it could probably be made cheaper if you could fine this type of fitting in a black iron pipe material. So my total cost for this one fitting was about $15 by the time I got through with assembly and consumables. :) Almost forgot, it looks like you could chuck up the barb onto a lath and turn it down, problem is it would be paper thin when you got through. ;) Thats why I did a chop and weld. Oo.

Ok I got my oil sample reports today via email. I sent in 2 samples. One was virgin 15W/40 Amsoil to establish a base line. The second one was a sample on this oil which is in my truck with 8,910. 4 miles on it. Their comments are quoted below. When these samples were sent in the truck had 148,855 miles on it. I am now over 150,000. Next sample should show what the spinner is doing. If I can figure out how to attach a spread sheet, I can just post it with all the numbers and such. ;)

Virgin Sample

"Nothing unusual showed up in this sample of virgin Amsoil 15W/40. The additives were normal for Amsoil. No wear metals were present, which is great. We are increasingly finding traces of metals, perhaps from holding tanks, in virgin oil samples, though no metals were present here. The TBN read 11. 8, so you're starting out with lots of active additive. No moisture present. The trace of insolubles probably shouldn't be there, but it's not really hurting anything either. This is serviceable oil. "

Same oil with 8,910. 4 miles on it.

"You mentioned you wanted the virgin oil sample to serve as your first sample, so we put them both under the same unit ID. If you actually wanted them to be separate units, just let us know. Your Cummins engine looks great at this point. Wear levels read well below universal averages, which are based on a 6500-mile oil change interval. You ran this oil almost 9000 miles, so you're getting much better wear after more miles--a sign of a great engine. The TBN read 8. 3, lots of active additive left. Note the high viscosity, which isn't hurting anything. Try 10K next. "

Wally, your fitting arrived today & coincidentally the Spinner II did too. :) Now I have to get to work on the bracket fabrication & source the lines.

What timing, I just walked in the house and got the mail and your check was there. :) Your should be able to get the lines made at a hydraulic fittings shop. The ones in my truck are teflon lined and good to 400 deg. F. ;)

With all due respect, that report tells precious little about actual used oil condition, and is pretty much a "canned" reply that could easily apply to most oil analysis results. What is most telling, or COULD BE with your new setup, is the usual *actual* wear and other contaminent percentages, including the SOOT content - can you post those?

I will be sending in another sample in a couple of thousand miles. When I get the results I plan on posting all the numbers in a graph form for each of the areas. Im not worried about "canned" responses as these are the first two samples sent in. I have talked wtih Blackstone and am pleased with what they are telling me.

My plan is is post the rusults in graph form each and every time I get the results. So eventually you will see trends either good or bad. Right now I am very happy with the install. The next posting with the results will also have a picture of the contents of what is in the spinner. Based on what I saw after about 20 hours of run time, I think it will be interesting.

Mundgyver: Great post! Please keep us updated on the oil analysis responses from Blackstone. When you get the graphs can you post them because I change my oil every month. I have a 05 Dodge CTD HPCR, 4X4, NV5600, QC, LB, SRW. I'm runnng 10K mile oil change intervals with PetroCanada Duron 15w40. The reason why I change the oil so often is because the soot level is extremely high... . this is my 3rd CTD, my 1994 CTD lasted me 374K before I sold it to a buddy.

Please keep us posted!

I will be pushing out an oil sample in about 1500 miles, next month if I keep my current rate. At that time I will provide some photos of what comes out of the Spinner II. I know it will be allot more than what i got with 20 hours of run time, and that was nasty looking. :)

Hey Mundgyver: I just ordered a Spinner II, Model 25... please keep us posted on any updates. I'm still going back and forth with Spinner II distributer on the price plus shipping. What did you pay and do you know of a better place to purchase it from? Thanks Wally.

I can send some more pictures on Thursday. I need to take more if you need more detail. Thursday is my first day off. I will also be pulling a oil sample and cleaning out the spinner and will post those pics so you all can see what comes out.

Mundgyver: Thanks, I have a new, uninstalled Amsoil bypass setup in my garage right now. However, I am biased towards the idea of not having to change any additional filters besides my 30 micron HPCR Strataspore oil filter. The Spinner II is just what the doctor ordered.
