Got a new set of hella fog lamps for Christmas. Directions say splice into high beams for one of the connections on the switch. I have a 1996 truck just curious where is the best place to do this. I want the lights to come on when I have the high beams activated with the switch on. Thanks!

The best way to wire it in is so the fog lites come on when ever you want i. e. . hi, low or headlights off. Your lamps should have come with a relay, if not buy one, they're cheap. Run any 12v+ though the switch to activate the relay which will then pull the 12 volt from a larger circuit. On my '95 the wiring was already in for the factory foglites minus the relay and switch. I just bought a switch from the dealer and used the relay that came with my lamps. Running hi beams and foglites at the same time is illegal in most states, but how can they catch you if they're blinded.

Bill,

The California law about that is a head light count. If there are four or less bright lights on you are ok.

Fish on:

On another one of my trucks I used a high amp rated 3 position (on-off-on) illuminated switch to wire in my driving lamps the way you want to with your fogs. As Illfem said you must use a relay with your light system. (I've never had a problem with Bosch relays)

For one of the "ON" circuits,

I took a highbeam lead from the headlights (under the dash) and wired it through the illuminated switch then to the relay, the relay would then act as a switch to draw the current directly from the battery or "big" source. This would let your Fogs come on with your high beams

For the other "ON" circuit,

I took an always hot lead from the fuse panel to the other side of my 3 pole (position switch) This would allow you to turn on your fogs at any time (even with out the key in the ignition)

It's a matter of getting the right switch to do this but it's a sweet set up, The illuminated switch reminds you when they 're on and you have complete control over them. If I've made a mistake with the wiring please forgive me as I was taking this off the top of my noggin. Good luck

:)

Forgot to ask which Helllas did you get and how is the light pattern? I've been looking at a set of them or the 550 drivers. Thanks

My 95 had fog lights wired to the low beams when I bought it. It had been wired this way for awhile. One month later, my lights would not work. My switch went bad. Had to re-wire fogs!
