It is only a few bolts. takes about 5 min to pull it out and count, you will only loose a few dribbles of oil if you jack it up on that side. should be 35 could be 37

ok guys ,weve got 32,35,37 do i hear 39???going once... there must be a way to tell by #s on plate or something. everytime i touch it i have to fix it ,i dont want to pull the axles to look, its a dana 70 w/drums. thanks for trying!!!

wildmanben--I believe you are correct--when I did my swap one of the reasons was becasue the axles in the 80 were bigger than the 70--I know the 80 axles are 35 and they were in fact bigger than the 70' also it was just posted elsewhere that the 70's are 32 spline---but to be sure I'd pull them and check---also the 70's axle shafts are tapered to a different size when it gets out to the hub----chris

Pretty sure it's 32 but, if you want to know for sure and don't want to take it a part then call TNT at 262-544-5115 talk to Terry he can answer any questions you have about diffs. Doug

It takes 5 minutes to pull one out and check and put back in. Nothing to screw up, just take out the bolts and it slides out and count. The time you spent typing all this you could have checked;) ;)

My 02 has 35 spline in a D70 contrary to all above 32 spline count D70. 's I bought an 01 D80 disc brake diff to swap out with D70 and they have Identical axles in each, same size, spline count and tapers.

my truck is out to the trans shop AGAIN, it will be there for WEEKS! i was going to do some ordering but when i tried i was asked spline count and um... here we are. at least i didnt ask about the LP again!! lol

not to hi-jack--but who/what is Phoenix transmission--I see you're totally impressed, so I'm just curious as I've never heard of them---maybe time to go see Mass Diesel????--------chris

I bet when they switched to rear disks they changed to one standard axle... . any one ever check an 01. 5 (when they got disks?).

John

When I had work done to my Diff. the shop guy could tell exactly what I had from the tag on one of the bolts for the diff. cover. Of course my tag was missing so he told me to get the stamped numbers off the right side axle tube(rear side) near the spring perch and he then I. D. what I had.
