Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Belt Tensioner Questions

I've been reading alot about both the SPS62 and the silver bullet. SPS62 seems like a great all around turbo, works good for towing, can make some big hp. The silver bullet is even better, more top end, not as good for towing, slower spool.

My question is how would the spooling of these two turbos compare to my HX40? When I went to the HX40 from the stock HX35 I lost some bottom end, spool up is about 200 rpm higher, but pulls much harder on up.

Would the SPS62 spool quicker than my HX40 and the SB be about the same? or would the SPS62 spool about the same as my HX40 and the SB be even slower?

I rarely tow at all, just a daily driver, like to have fun :D Maybe get into sled pulling next year ;) It just seems like I never go big enough the first time around... .

Since I have a 04 I don't know if this could help you any, but the SPS 62 on my truck spools damn near as fast as the stocker, it just doesn't fall on it's face after 2800 RPM like the stocker did. After 1700 RPM you better be holding hold on. Looking at what you've done, I think you'd like a SPS62... The nice thing is, as long as you get a "SUPER" phat shaft you can have the super 62 built into a 64 or 66 for $400 "last time I checked". If your seriously thinking of getting a new turbo, the best thing to do is call industrial injection 1 800 955 0476 Ask for Shane or Brady... .

Do you have any head work done at all??? Studs?? Fire Rings????If you are thinking about running a SB you better get some work done, cause I'd bet your HG wouldn't last long. I have a SB and love it but I also have a 3rd gen the spool is quite amazing for a big turbo when it hits around 12 to 15 psi it comes on hard and it pegs my little 60psi gauge. The SB isn't going to spool as fast as the 62 from what I have seen and heard.

I've got studs now and plan on either O-rings or Fire rings on the head prior to the turbo change.

I was planning on adding a HT3B to my 40 and running twins, but may go with a large single instead. For the simplicity and ease of changing in the future if need be.

Spool up on a 2nd gen is a lot slower than a 3rd gen, just so you know. I don't have a 62 or a sb, but I have a super phat shaft 64. Had stock on before. With my set-up it had no problems in the winter. Now after it gets 60 degrees outside, it has a haze when you're taking off. It doesn't do it under light throttle or heavy throttle, but at normal acceleration (5-15lbs boost) It's not bad empty, pulling a trailer is a little worse. But it spools pretty quick in my opinion, it just has that haze. I'm getting an afe stage 2 to replace my k&n re880, we'll see if that helps. Once it lights hold on. I'd say spool-up takes 3 seconds longer than the 35 did from a no throttle to full throttle acceleration. If there's already boost, it's just about as fast as stock was. Hope that helps.

If I had the $ I'd go twins on a 2nd gen, SB on a 3rd. I may even try twins in the future, who knows... Corey
