Well, I ran my tank to below empty, almost to the low peg... Dave's installation instructions were excellent! I had only about a half an inch left in the bottom of the tank :--) I would guess about a half gallon... The tank was very workable and I was able to get in between the frame and fender to see the connections on top of the tank... Having a new truck that is clean underneath was a plus ;) Anyhow the results: The truck took 40 gallons and I only took about 15 seconds to get gas to the filler neck! No SH#T this would have taken 10 minutes to get 34 gallons in!!!

The downside??? Total bill was $102. 00 to fill up

Seriously, you MUST do this mod. Thanks to Dave for a very innovative product at an extremely reasonable price!

Cheers, Bill

The same here I beleave I will install it soon though. Gas prices out at the truck stop at Castaic lake here on the 5 in california ( just north of L. A. ) are $2. 49 a gallon.

We have the original version of the kit. For sure, we'll be looking for the new version when the 2006's come out and we trade/sell our 04. 5.

As they say, "Don't leave home without it... " :-laf

The kit took me about 2 hours to install. I didn't rush and had a coke etc... :)

Just make sure that you have everything on Daves list before you start. Also, have the tank below E and you will not really even need an ATV jack.

Very straightforward install!

Cheers

I just received my kit this week... . about how long does the install take? I might try and tackle that today.

I did 2 trucks in 2 hours. Really easy to do. One of the trucks had about 1/8 of a tank of fuel in it and it was still managable by myself. As mentioned above, just have all the things ready that the instructions mention.

Glad you guys like the kit. I've changed the fittings slightly so that you can install the kit without disassembling the fittings. I now seal the fittings for you with thread sealer to you don't have to worry about finding it. The kit is the same otherwise. I can't imagine life without it!

Keep this up, and you'll probably come up with a self-install kit!

You know... place parts under truck for 20 - 25 minutes... :-laf

If for some reason I had to get rid of my truck today and get a new one, the very FIRST mod I'd do would be to install the vent mod.

(second would be EdgeEZ :) )

Well if this thing is working that good I just might have to order me some. How does it allow the truck to fill up faster or at least the last couple of gallons? Just lets it breath better?

Clayton,

The stock vent is located on the lower part of the tank forward of the rear "hump". The kit moves the 3/4" vent to the highest part of the tank at the rear. All of the air vents out like it should and fillup times are reduced dramatically.

Just got off the phone with Spooled-up and ordered two of the kits... Figure two would be better then one... just kidding I ordered one for me and one my father in-law. Aren't I a good son in-law? :-laf So how much fuel will the short bed take from going on fumes to a true full tank?

I ordered and installed 7 of these kits at the last NWBombers bomb party. Every person I have talked to after the install says it is the best mod so far. Worth every cent.

Anyone in the NW who would like to have this kit installed let me know and then show up at Hoss's in Arlington, wa for the bomb party on June 10-12th. I may be making another large order to save on shipping.

I figure mine is scaring the heck out of 40 gallons. Really, there's no change from before the vent kit, but now I save a lot of time getting the tank that full. :D :D :D

40 gallons in a short bed Oo. So when you fill your truck now it will click off around 35-40 gallons depending how much fuel is left in the tank? And if you top off it goes a lot faster or there is no need to top off?

Before I did the mod, I ran my truck well past DTE 0 on the overhead and then put in more than 34 gallons. The pump would kick off at around 32 or 3 gallons, then I would spend the next 15 or 20 minutes (felt like an eternity) dribbling in about 3 more gallons until it was full to the vent opening in the filler neck. Doing this, I put in over 34 gallons more than once.

When I did the vent kit, I had run the truck 20 miles past DTE 0. Once the tank was down, I guesstimate there was at least 3 or 4 gallons still in it, based on the depth of the fuel and the weight of the tank.

When I filled up after the mod, the pump kicked off somewhere just over 34 gallons, and I spent about 30 seconds getting fuel up to the vent.

So, as has been said here, the benefit of the kit is the time it saves.
