Does anyone have the instructions for conducting the sport head light conversion with part numbers etc. I am interested in updating by 2001. 5 lights they suck. .

Me too - I agree the non sport lights _#$%

I did a search and it appearts that a TDR member TNT had instructions at one time but is no longer a member. Does anyone else have instructions or do good instructions come with the harness and the new lights? Thanks in advance. .

Well, I just recently did the conversion on mine, and the mechanical part of the conversion is easily described, but the electrical is another matter.

Reason is, there are variations available that include either a totally pre-wired wiring assembly, or a relatively Do-it-yourself kit that provides the relays and related hardware, but leaves the actual harness construction to the buyer.

The conversion is not a simple plug-and-play, the sportlights have 2 dual filament bulbs where the stocker only has one, so some form of wiring adaptation is necessary to make them function properly.

Added to that is the fact that there are also variations as to preferences in actual operation of the new lights - do you want a strictly high-beam/low-beam setup, or do you want both high AND low beams activated when the lights are switched to high beam for greater road illumination?

That all affects the ability to provide a proper total conversion instruction - perhaps if you are already aware of the several possible variations, and have a clear preference as to how you want the lights to function, someone here who has theirs in a similar configuration can provide help more specific to your plans.

I personally used the Daniel Stern do-it-yourself wiring kit, and have my lights wired so that the high/low beams are separate and independent, and don't come on together at the high beam position.

Hope that helps...

The toughest part of the job was lowering the front bumper. Just loosen the bolts and push down on it. IMHO, get an aftermarket wirng harness for the conversion. Mine keeps all 4 elements burning at all times. Works very well. I think my harness cost me about a C note. Made the wiring part of the job mucho simple. On my sport lights it took some maneuvering to get them to sit straight (level) on one side. DEPO Brand lights BTW.

I would like to have both bulbs come on with the high beam. I do have a bright box does it work with the sport conversion or not. Does anyone have instructions for converting an 01 non sport to sport with a both bulbs on at high beam. Even if I can get instructions for not having both on a high beam I would go with this set up. This would be a great write up for the TDR magazine because I think there are a lot of us that would perform this upgrade... thanks kts

That depends on what model BriteBox® you have & how you have configured the new harness you'll need for the Sport lamp transplant. Anything is possible.

Check your PM.

Just got finishied with Mine, wish I would have done it sooner. Went to Advance auto and bought 4 new sockets, (the high temp ones come in A 2 pack, have heavier wire, and this is about the same price as the standard. ) 4 30 amp relays, some heat shink tubing, and 4 ring terminals to fit the batery terminals. On 1 socket from each side cut off the blue wire, it is not used. To keep from reapeting as much, just remember to put heat shrink on all wires before soldering. solder the yellow lead from the socket with all 3 wires and the black lead from the other to A piece of 12 guage wire and A ring terminal to the other end for the ground post of the battery. Use another for 1 of the contact terminals on each relay for the hot wire from the battery. solder the yellow from the socket with 2 wires and the blue from the other one together to the open contact terminal on one relay and the leftover black wire to the open contact terminal on the other relay. take the exsisting socket on the truck and with the clip up and You standing in front of the truck facing the open end of the socket, cut the wire on the right. this wire needs to be conected to one side of the coil for the relay on both relays. next cut the center wire and conect it to the other coil wire on the relay with the black wire from the socket with 3 wires. Cut the left wire from the socket and conect it to the last relay terminal. After all of this, if You have properly heat shrinked all terminals You are ready to hold both relays together and wrap them with friction tape to make sure nothing can short out or get moister in them. Conect the common and hot wires to the battery and put the socket with 2 wires on the 9004 bulb and the other on the 9007 bulb. Now You are getting full voltage (unlike the factory wiring) at the bulbs. When dims are on You are using the low beam of the 9007 bulb and when the brights are on You will have both high beams going together. The sport head light optict are not made to properly focus the low beam on the 9004 and You would probably get pulled over for not dimming them if You try to use it. The diference in My truck with this set up is like night and day since doing this. If You would prfer to have the relays mounted on the fender just add A little length to the wire and go for it. I do not Use the so called upgrade bulbs in Mine and have found that most of them is really A down grade, the difference in color may look cute but You can not see as well with them and most have an extremly shorter life. I have found that for beeing able to see and long life the best out ther is the GE Night Hawk. Hope this helps.
