Sport headlights for a 1996 Ram

What is involved in the installation of the Sport headlights in a 1996 Ram 3500? How are the dual lamps wired?

Just to get you started...

1dslram, I've been researching this some lately for my '96, but I haven't done it yet so this is just to get you started. First: search the forums for 'sport headlight conversion' or something like that. You'll get plenty of info. Okay, for the broad strokes: You'll have to do some minor surgery on the headlight buckets. New wiring, either self made or aftermarket harness. Several have reported the stock wiring and aftermarket harnesses aren't big enough to deliver full voltage and you're better off making your own. Seems believable to me. The sport lights will have two bulbs: a 9004 and a 9007. You only have a 9004 now, so you'll need a pair of 9007s. Of course, you need a pair of the sport assemblies (range in price, do some shopping). Tools: sawzall, electrical hand tools. Someone who has completed this project can get the details better. I'm guessing average price is between $400 and $500. Good luck.

I'm running two harnesses (one dedicated to each set of bulbs), and I dont think I have a problem with voltage drop.

Just did this to my '95 in March and it's great! I got 4 HD light sockets w/12ga. pigtails, 3 Hella relays, 3 relay blocks and 2 9004 male pigtails from Daniel Stern Lighting(http://lighting.mbz.org/home.html) for $75. 00 I think. All you need is wire to complete the job. The male sockets plug into the stock 9004 sockets and there is no cutting of the factory wires using these. You run two relays, one for the highs and low beams and upgrade the wiring so it all works better this way. I have real good instructions from another member and if you want I'll e-mail them to you.

About total price... I guessed on my earlier post that average price was running $400 to $500. Was that about right? I realize there is some range in the light assembly prices. Seems there is some range in their quality too.

I just paid $210. 00 plus shipping for the lights and am going to order two harnesses for $70. 00 plus shipping that brings the total to about $325. 00 with shipping.

You can pull the terminals out of the old harness

connectors and resolder the 12 gauge wire and reassemble

them. It is pretty much quick and easy, the wires will be cut to length and saves some money.
