I'm just wondering if anyone else has spots on their windshield that can't be cleaned off. I've got a number of little spots on the windshield that look like some liquid had splattered on the glass, but there's no way I can get them cleaned! I've tried a couple different glass cleaners, and even my finger nails and nothing gets them out. It's almost as though the glass is delaminating in spots, or has air between the glass and the plastic laminate.

They're mostly just annoying at night. Anyone else?

Rbattelle:

I've noticed at least one spot (the size of a quarter) near my left a-pillar. Now that you mention it, it looks like something spilled on the windshield or the lamination process was incomplete or something. I'm not too worried about it.

When I bought my 97 it had what looked like a Spider Web in the windshield just below the mirror. Almost a year later I was having some warranty work done and pointed it out to the service writer and they replaced it under warranty. So you might check with your Dealer.

The wifes Durango had several "Spots" as well. Dealer had glass comnpany come look and they said it was between the glass. Dealer also warrantied the windshield. That was about a month ago. No a nice rock hit the right side and it is cracked about 6".

Mine's doing the same thing, the whole windshield, looks like something got sprayed over the whole thing... only notice it in the rain, defrost doesn't do anything, but hit A/C and defrost, it goes away, it's not film on the inside, and the wipers don't affect the outside... I thought it was possibly from the spray wax at the do it yourself car wash, but don't know:confused:

Yep wax can cause a bad spotting of windshield.

Try Rain-X or the more powerful Invisible Shield ( same stuff just more active ingredient) This is like a wax (but removes self serve car wash wax) and most be buffed real good or it streaks. Sold for its sheeting action that causes water to bead up and run off it also cleans glass real clean and dirt and bugs do not stick as easily (that is why I use it; the sheeting is a little weird and takes a while to get used to).

I too have the quarter sized thing near my a pillar , least of my worrys for now, definitely between the glass .

I also have the spots in my windshield as well as the side windows. The windshield doesn't worry me in the least because if the past is an indicator of the future, I'll replace my windshield 4 times in the next 5 years due to rock strikes. Might be 5 times on this truck since I plan to take it to AK sometime during its lifetime.

My entire windshield has these spots and cleaning compounds don't work. It's really bad using the wipers.

The Dealer is replacing it under warranty.

It could be hard water spotting. Take it to the dealers detail shop. they usually have a product around that can remove them. I have found that they can be very difficult to remove with out the proper product.

What I have on mine is NOT hard water spots.

When it's raining, it looks almost like oil on the windshield, in spots, but, mine of all over the entire windshield.

If it is hard water spots the best removal precedure is steel wool and some window cleaner. Takes them off just fine, that is what the detailers use at the used car shops.

Otherwise, not sure what to do except replace?

WHOA, be careful

Steel wool and scotchbrite can scratch the glass.

Baking soda won't. MOF I've used baking soda to remove latex paint overspray from the paint of my truck--that would NOT come off with clay.

Also Bon-Ami is anti-gun so I don't use their product any more. NRA keeps a list.

window spots

read this thread the other day, early this am I took her out and guess what, I have the spots. I think reading this thread may cause spots!

Haven't tried it on these spots but I have can of "bar tenders Friend" white powder, like bon ami, works real nice on dirty glass mirrors, or any surafce, like formica.
