Drove through the local dealer's lot last night and saw an '01 reg cab longbox 4x4 slt with a v plow on it. It had just over 100,000 miles on it and they were asking 18,995... . WOW !!! Are these trucks holding their value THIS much?Thinking about going in to order a new one,and seeing if they feel the same about my 2002 truck's value... :-laf

Given the price of a new one it only makes sense that the used values will come up.

One problem is the Kelly Blue Book doesn't always give an accurate value on the older CTD's and some people will have trouble getting the loan on an older one.

Find a banker that owns one and it would be all good... ..... :-laf

Mike. :)

I sold my spotless, always garaged 2002 3500 4x2 HO/6-speed Sport with the G package (leather, etc. ) with 47,000 miles for $17,500 in September 2010 when we took delivery of the new truck in my signature.

I'm not saying that I agree with it and certainly can't explain it, but locally, used Cummins trucks are pulling a very hefty sum used if they are in remotely decent condition. I think I've probably said this on here before, but a young guy we work with picked up an '06 6-speed last fall with ~40K on it for $35000. :eek: That's just shy of what I paid for my '07 new. Late 3rd gen trucks are routinely listed around here for high 20's to low 30's and selling. Rust free 2nd gens are in the high teens.

SOME trucks are fetching upwards of $25k, HOWEVER, most of them are worth about $10k give or take 3-4000. Top dollar is for low mile (under 50k), rust free, unmolested trucks with flawless interiors.

I've got 3 out of 4 of the reqirements..... :-laf

I'm over the mileage requirement though by 110,000 mi..... :{

I do have the 6spd though..... ;)

dealer bylaws: a vehicle is worth what you can get someone to write a check for, that day. everything else is smoke and hot air! I have owned 7 of these 2nd gens (all used gently,) sold every one of them to very lucky people ( they were bomb'd A LOT) and never towed or raced, only occasional dyno runs,absolutely NO rust, because things dont rust in the desert. all came from Saitta-Trudeau Dodge in pahrump,NV. Yes they do hold value, but only if well cared for cosmeticaly, but banks STILL ding them for 70k and 100k miles, each milestone being more of a hit, even tho a 5. 9 just gets to running good at 70k. I sold a 450 hp met red 2500 slt laramie with leather in mint condition just because it was as 99- "53" block it had 95k and looked like I just drove it home from the dealer (underneath, too). The guy is still driving it and terrorizing sporty car drivers, my loss, his gain so if you got a good one, keep it if you are looking for a great truck, get 15-20k and buy now, caus the new ones are NOT getting cheaper and they dont make last years anymore

Seems like every place we take our Dodge when we come out to get in it someone has put their Phone number on paper and under the wiper arm. The new ones are nice but I just dont like all the EXTRA B. S. that goes along with owning them. Mine has enough GIZMATCHIE'S on it I dont need more. And payments???? DONT THINK SO.

Since moving from NV to In just about every where I go people want to buy my truck (no rust). It is absolutely insane how much salt they put on the roads. When they hear that it is going to snow they are out spreading salt before it snows then we only get 1-2 in of snow. The roads are white with salt residue.

It's not that the trucks are holding their value. The true reason for the higher prices on all trucks (old/new) is the declining dollar.

sold my 97 5spd with 243k for 12,500. it was an exceptional truck and i thought i got more than top dollar, now im wondering a little bit.

While my wife and I were looking for a used small car for her (we ended up with a MINI convertible!), I looked over and a husband/wife were looking at some of the Dodges on the lot. My wife heard them say something about a Megacab and the salesman looked around and said "There's one" as he ushered them to my truck! STEP AWAY FROM THE DIRTY MEGACAB!:-laf

Yeah Cosmo, I'm aware of that. I actually had to wait awhile to find a used Reg Cab 4x4, as I did not want the length of the Ext Cab. I tow a large machine into job sites that are sometimes very tricky to navigate. Now that I'm semi-retired I wish it was the Ext Cab.

Wow, that truck in the original post here better need NOTHING. I would almost put money on the front end needing tons of work, like they all do at this age. I bought my '96 4 years ago with 95,000mi. for $6000. I needed/needs TONS of work (front end, brakes, frickin' cab leak I still can't find, small dents, minor interior stuff) so buyer beware.
