New to the TDR and to diesels in general. Really have garnered a great deal of info off this site.
Question - How do those of you who have the spray in bedliners like it? Is there a difference in manufacturers? Does anyone know of an installer here in the San Jose area? How bout price?
I have the OEM bedliner and I'm not to happy with it. Fits like it was made for a Ford!
Thanks in advance

Do a search in this forum on Arma Coating, Line-X, Speedyliner, Rhino & Superliner.
I have had 2 beds done by Arma Coating and have been very happy. My neighbor has had 2 Line-X and both have peeled but they fixed them at no cost. They are all good if the preparation is done correctly.

I just had a bedliner sprayed in. It's called Alpha-liner... the guy who did mine is one of the first to do spray ins and he was a LineX rep before he went independent. Supposedly, this stuff is better than LineX in that it has 35% (I think) polyurea (whatever that is) compared to 15% in LineX. This translates to a stronger material with less fading... according to the owner. (what else is he going to say?)

So far, I'm happy with it although the first instal was botched due to improper ratios of chemicals (it bubbled) They tore the whole thing out, gave me a rental car and did a great job in the end. Haven't been able to really test it with a heavy load.

Buff,
I have the Rhino liner. As you have already noticed, many others exist, and may offer slighty different charactoristics. From what I hear, others are better and potentially less costly.

It looks great, fits great (obviously), keeps moisture away from the bed and keeps things from sliding around MUCH better than a drop-in.

Bad side is that it is less durable to a hard plastic drop-in, cost twice as much, and isn't as easy to replace. Although most offer some sorta repair warranty or service.

I've had a sharp ground shovel put a nice gouge in mine down to the paint. Whereas a drop-in would only have a minor scrape.

A word of advice,
They advertise "up to 1/4" inch thick". Well, make sure you check out their work before giving them your truck. I don't think mine is 1/4" anywhere except maybe in the corners or something... but not where it matters.

I really like my Linex. I has faded a bit in the last 1+ year, and doesn't grip stuff quite as well as it used to, but it's still really tough, with no noticable wear. BTW, I'd really recommend going with the "over-the-rail" application - my dealer did a really great job of making it look good, and it has saved a lot of paint scrapes.

Highly recommended.

Mine's a Rhino. I really like it. I have about 5/16"-3/8" on the floor and 1/4" on the sides BUT, I had to ask for it and pay a little more for the extra thickness. Standard installation is about 1/8" all over.

The Rhino is a little "softer" than some of the others brands. Advantages - deadens the sound better, protects from dents better (more cushion), grips hard/smooth objects better (a little stickier). Disadvantages - easier to cut (as mentioned above), doesn't grip soft or rough objects as well (surface not as rough).

Any of them can be repaired by the installers if you get a ding in them.

It seems that all the name brands are better then the do-it-yourself kits. The DIY's just don't stick as well and aren't as durable. I used a DIY kit on the racks of my quad. Turned out real nice for that application, but I can cut a chunk out of the stuff with my fingernail.

Hope this helps.

I am NOT happy with my Rhino Lining. To make a long story short, the Rhino Lining dealer barely applied 1/16th on an inch of the lining to my truck bed (3 trips to his shop and 2 applications). Rhino's advertising say's they are up to 1/4" thick. I've contacted Rhino Linings directly, and they have not been any help at all in resolving the lack of lining applied to my truck. In fact, they could care less #ad

. This is my experience with a company that does not have any customer support.

Thanks for all the info fellas.
I just got off the phone to Arma-coatings in Salinas. $560. 00 for over the rail and $480. 00 for under. 3/16's on the floor and 1/8" on the walls.
Sure wish I hadn't bought that OEM bedliner now! Oh well, one more gotta have to add to the list.

The Rhino liner I had done in San Jose was fantastic! There is a car rental down the street as I didn't want to hang around all day while it was being done. If you make it to the next Ramrunners meeting you can take a look at it for yourself.

Sounds like satisfaction with Rhino linings depends a lot on the local shop. Don't know what they have to do to get the product or use the name (probably just pay $$). Anyway, sorry to hear others aren't happy. I wouldn't be either if I had the same story. The shop that did mine was very customer focused. I never even considered calling Rhino. Glad I didn't have to.

I've got the Line-x. The guy who put it in was great and he stands behind it 100%. I had a couple of gouges in it the second day after I got it. He fixed them free of charge. He said I was the first customer he ever had to use the repair kit on. He did an outstanding job. If anyone wants to take on his business, I'd be happy to oblige.

Had Line-X OTR applied about 1 month ago and I had them spray the rocker panels while they were at it. Looks great! Lots of complements on the look of the truck as well as the quality job they did. I thought about ruberizing the whole dang truck but my wife didn't like that idea to much.

BUFF, I read a post on the Happy Campers BB several years ago where a Rammer who had already purchased a plastic drop-in bed liner, subsequently had a spray-in liner applied to the bed, to which, he reinstalled his drop-in liner on top of. Double protection. I believe this would only work well if the drop-in liner was an under-the-rail type. Something to consider.

Mine's a Line-X. Had the same on the 97, help up great. They need to do a good cleaning on the bed (alcohol and sanding) to get a good attachment. Also had them spray the running boards, made them even better.

Prior to product application they scuff the surface to be sprayed with either a sanding disc or a "Scotchbrite" disc. Product adhesion is not good enough with chemicals alone.

Both the ads for Rhino and Line-X state they can be sprayed UP TO 1/4" thick. The key words being, UP TO. If you request a thick buildup, also be forewarned that this makes it harder for them (ESPECIALLY Line-X... heated application) to remove the wire tape without tearing the product on an over-the-rail job. I experienced this with the Line-X job on my Ram... it took three tries #ad
to finally get the job done correctly.

I got mine from a company here in Phoenix called Kool and Tuff. It must be a little more durable than the Rhino Liner because it's darn near impossible to cut with a spade shovel. This is the second truck I've had this brand of liner in and I really like it. They do seem to fade a little but in the Phoenix sun that's understandable.

I have a Speedliner spray in liner. It's a color matched under the rail liner. It's been in the truck 2 years, and still looks brand new. It cost me $425. 00 tax included. Installation is everything with a spray in liner. Somebody who doesn't know what they're doing can make a real mess. Definitely look at a truck that they just did, and ask for references. Also, look at the shop. If it's clean and meticulous, you can be pretty confident they will be that way with your truck too. -Glen

Thanks to all for the responces!
