I am looking into a spray-on bedliner and was wondering what brand would be the best to go with. I would like to stay away from the do-it-yourself ones because I'm not sure how they hold up. Any info. would be appreciated. Thanks

Chris

Had Line-X sprayed in 1 week after got the truck. Called Line-X directly, saved $200. 00 from what the dealer said it would cost for them to have it done.
Top notch job! Very happy with it. Went with line-X after seeing my buddy's Chebby with a rhino liner. (Looks like cottage cheese). Mine's still textured, just not nearly as much.

I checked out both Rhino Liner and Line X before deciding on the Line X. Rhino Liner is applied hot and while cooling tends to run and pool in the low areas of the truck bed. That itself is not necessarily undesireable except that the liner is now thicker in the depressions and very thin in the high spots where most of the friction wear in the bed occurs. This is easy to see if you look at a Rhino Liner that has been cut off in cross section. The Line X is applied in multiple coats which harden instantly like paint and therefore do not pool to different thicknesses. Much better in my opinion!

I have a Rhino liner and to put it lightly, I'm less than impressed with the installation. Overall the product is good, and "could" be better than a drop in. Better products may exist.

One tip I can offer you:
They all say up to 1/4" thick... Well, tell them you want it 1/4". I don't think mine is a 1/4" in the corners!!... . yet alone on the bed portion where its really needed.
I'd be lucky to scrape 1/16th off the sides.

Oh, and please don't comment on "what I should do about it" The little lady will know. . When I get home all steamed. . saying $500 piece of %&%*%^&**(%%$&*@**&(&^%.
Been there!! Tried that!!

By saying UP TO 1/4"... technically 1/16th is considered acceptable.

Have a nice day #ad

Line-X uses twice as much hardener as most others use. This gives you a very hard liner. Things can slip on it better that on others, but it won't tear like the others either. Very satisfied with mine, except where I have been stupid and cut it.

I have had line-X in since new in 96 and have been happy with it. Any scrapes or gouges or any kind of damage they will fix at no charge but you have to take it back where it was done.

Go with lineX.
I've had mine in the truck on for about six months, it still looks like new. Yes I use the truck to haul just about everything I want to. I recently installed a B&W turnball hitch in my bed and I have roughly an 1/8 inch of liner in the bed and in the side wall. I tried to pull it off and peel it up you just can not do it. One of my brother-in-laws used to install the Rino lining and he told me that the Llinex would crack in the cold. I was up in Mi for Christmas and it dropped down to 6 degrees one night, I looked the bed over a few weeks ago when I was cleaning the truck and all looks good.
My two cents worth.
See Ya

Agree with all comments re: Line-x.
Be sure you get an installer that has done many trucks, not a "trainee".

I have NEVER seen a DIY job that looked even close to good.

Good luck.

Well I put a Rhino in my '97 and liked it and never had a problem hauling my 3500lb. camper. Now I have a 2000 3500. This time I put in a Line-x. Well after pulling the camper off for routine maintenence, I had 8 nice holes about the size of a pencil eraser in the liner. They came from slightly protruding screw heads on the bottom of the camper. IT NEVER HAPPENED WITH THE RHINO.

So I took the rig back to Line-x to take them up on their so called warranty. The owner of the shop was very nice and repaired it himself with CHAULKING COMPOUND!!!

Needless to say I will not reccomend Line-x to anyone - The warranty is BUNK.....

Hey C,
which one depends on how you want your bed to be- line-x tends to be slicker like a plastic liner, the rhino which is like a rubber mat will grip your contents and keep them from moving- Take a look at both up close and before you have either applied check a few trucks that the applicator has done- I have had two trucks with rhino and have been pleased with the end product but I checked the dealer out first, saw a few trucks he had done, that's the key either way- it's the prep work and applicator that makes the products last---- good luck #ad

I had a Permatech bedliner sprayed into my bed last summer. I chose it because I heard that the Rhino liner would fade and become "chalky" from U. V. exposure. I was told I would have to come back to have it treated every year for U. V. protection. The permatech liner has the U. V. protection built in and comes in many colors. I'm very happy with mine. It's very tough stuff. I agree that it's not 1/4 inch thick in most places but I feel it's great protection for the bed.

I called line-x here in my area and he told me that he could spray my 3500 for 375 does that sound about right. I know that most cost about 450 or so.

That sounds $10-$25 less than around here for an "under-the-rail" application, which is what I've got... . also short box. Forget how much more they wanted for "over-the-rail".

Chris-
I went to a couple of different companies like Rhino and Linex and looked at some of the jobs they had done. I chose the Rhino because I wanted the rougher texture, plus the coatings they were applying were really thick in the bottom of the bed. Mine is about 5/16" thick in the bed. Any liner is only as good as the guy putting it on and I think the quality varies from dealer to dealer. If you can find a buddy who also wants to get his bed coated ask them for a discount for doing 2 trucks. I got 10% off for taking them two trucks. My buddy had his '99 coated and it had a few dings in the bed. When they coated his they filled in the dings and his looks like a new bed again.

I've had the Rhino Liner for three years, its faded some, but gets lots of abuse and still holding up pretty well.

Howdy all,

I'm actually having my arma-coatings sprayed in as I type this. I found out that years ago two guys started the Line-X company, and split over differences in business. Anyway, one guy stayed with Line-X and the other started Arma-coatings. The spray in liner is exactly the same product, the difference is in the way each company preps the truck before application. Line-X supposedly just lightly sands the bed, while Arma-coatings actually takes the bed down to bare metal for a better adhesion. Now bare in mind this was what the owner of the Arma-coatings place told me as I dropped my truck off this morning.

He personally owns 3 Dodge CTD's and he personally took me back to my work after I dropped Godzilla off in his newest, a 2000 red dually with his bed liner sprayed in it. So I got to inspect their quality of work first hand, and was quite satisfied.

When I asked about having it repaired for chips/damage under warranty, he said anytime, just bring it back in and they'll fix it.

So, in a few houts I'll know what it looks like. I got over-the-rails sprayed in, full 8' bed, total cost was $375. This is in the Sacramento area (actually Rancho Cordova). My Ford buddy got Line-X sprayed in his 8' Super Duty last year, cost him $450.

Hey Tom...

You'll be happy with the Arma-coat. I've had their application in my 97 Dakota for over four years. Would have done the same with my new truck but the company went out of business, so I went with Line-x. Line-x makes the best spray-on protectant I've been able to find. I use it about twice a year... doesn't take very long, and brings back the color perfectly. It does leave the surface a little slippery for a few weeks, though. About $15 per bottle for probably 4-5 applications.

Joe
