HI All,

I have a like new 1993 W250... . Truck is in excellent condition BUT it does get water into the cab and under the rubber factory flooring (no carpet just factory sound deadner and rubber )... . I have tried to locate the source but have been unable to... . I don't want the floor boards to rust out so I have been thinking about taking the out the seats and floor coverings and having the cab sprayed inside with a coating like Rhino bed lining or its equivalent... . My questions are: 1) Will the lining hold up to the heat? 2) Will the lining keep the sound down without the factory floor covering (sound deadner and rubber floor). Thanks!

Andrew-

I've also considered doing the same thing to my truck, just because I like a vinyl mat over carpet. As for the spray in holding up to heat, that would have to be answered by the lining company. As far a sound deadening, I don't know if it would or not. Your other option would be to apply a heat shield/insulating covering under the cab similar to what manufacturers use on firewalls.

bedliner.....

I have sprayed bedliners for the past 7 years, and I have never had a heat issue with it. In a cab or in a bed what is the difference? the exhaust is hot under the beds and they never peeled. As long as the floor is sanded and I mean more than just scuffed with 400, it will stick fine. If you are worried about getting into the corners, you can spray them with adhesion promoter, like bulldog or morton, and they will be fine, just follow the directions on the can.

If you have elec. mirrors check the holes for the wires. Also the plastic behind the door panels and the vent by your foot. You could take the carpet out and go through a car wash with a good flash light to find the leak.

I too have the same problem. Living In Washington, there is a constant supply of water coming out of the sky. I think this water collects in the gutters, then overflows, runs down and under the sides of the windshield seal, and finally pools in my passenger footwell. I found that If I park overnight with my truck facing down on the slightest of grades I will end up with wet carpet. But if I park my truck facing uphill, my carpet stays dry. I have read here on the TDR that water will run down the pillar and into the cabs of our older rigs. I have also heard of guys fixing this problem by drilling a small hole in the front gutter, about 6"-8" in from both sides. This allows the gutters to drain down the windshield instead of overflowing by the pillars. Hope this helps.
