Probably a dumb question?

I know this subject has been hashed out here befor but I have not seen the answer Im looking for, so here it is. I was thinking of getting a sprayed in bedliner in my truck and now I got a few questions about them to those who have them. A friend of mine who sprays on Rhino Linings told me not to waste my money on any of them. He said if you don't haul anything or just very light stuff it is OK but if you really are working the bed of the truck all they do is chip and scratch and what not. So my question is are they really worth the couple of hundred of dollars you spend on them? Or are you just better off going with a plastic drop in liner with a rubber mat so all of you stuff don't slide all the time?

Thanks in advance.

Mike

I had my bed linex'ed over the rail, very happy. I would never use a drop in. If you check out linex go to the web site and find a authorized distributor there are a number of ways to rip someone off with an inferior job and I believe the "good forever/where ever" waranty is only good if the original job makes it into their database. Friday I hauled 1100 pounds of stuff to the dump and moved yard crap around yesterday including very large rocks. This is my second truck that I have Linex'ed.

I just had the Armathane done in mine & it looks great! It's got to be better than the plastic bedliners that could trap water and possibly rust out your box..... To each his own.

Clay :)

I had mine done with Speedliner. Matches the truck, under the rail 8 ft. bed, was $450. 00. Mine is 7 years old and still looks good. A friend of mine had his Ford F-250 done with Line-X. In my opinion Line-X is not even close to Speedliner. An important note is the installer. They make all the difference. Look at some trucks they have done before plopping down your hard earned cash.

I line-Xed my 02 and was so happy I had to do it to the 03. Then my son had to do his truck. Its the only way to go. Looks sharp and cleans up real nice at the car wash if you get it super dirty.

I hauled a yard of dirt in it last weekend, shoveled it out, then pressure washed at the car wash and it looked brand new. Line X has a better non slip surface IMO than Rino. In other trucks I have had drop ins and also used just a rubber mat but the Line X I really like.

I had line-x on my 02 and my current cummins. It is a great bed liner. A few years ago I was at the fair and line-x had a demo booth, they took a sample of rhino and a sample of line-x rubbed them together and the line-x rubbed away the rhino.  I would get line-x it is good stuff. I did have a few chips in the liner after hauling a pair of 440 engines around for a couple of days with no stands. But line resprayed the area for free. If you do get line-x call and tell them your a car dealer and your sending over a new customer. I did that and it saved me a 120 bucks. Corey

Rhino here. The Rhino seems to be/stay more pliable, the line-X seems harder.

The key to good adhesion with either is the quality of the prep work.

If they say that can get you out in a cuople ours run, don't walk. It takes time to wash, prep, wash, dry then spray.

Both my trucks are linexed and I will do my next truck also. When done right as mentioned earlier, you can't go wrong. If they chip, you take it back and they fix it. Cleaning one is easy with Simple Green and brush and water. Mine is about 1/8 inch thick and over the rails. The next one I have done, I am going to see if I can get it 3/16 inch thick and do the rocker panels also. I bought a new set of Weston nerf bars that were scratched and on sale at 1/3 original price and had them sprayed with Line-x and they look very nice all matched to the bed Line-X. It is a good product when put on by someone who take the time to do the proper prep and application. ;) :D

Have LineX over the rails and am really satisfied with it. My son has Rhino, he likes it. But personally i think the Rhino looks like blisters.

I have had drop in liners in the past. Always wind up with moisture underneath. Get more rust and wear than if no liner. I have had line-x in last two trucks. I will always get any truck line-x'ed from now on. I do have a heavy rubber bed mat also. This solves the heavy duty objects that might tear up the bed, of course they would tear up a drop in liner also.

Had Line-X in my 2001. Was very happy with it, but I didn't load lots of rocks and junk in mine. The Line-X has a pretty good warranty. If it tears of come loose, they will fix it... :)

Line-x on my 2001 dakota and had a battery open up on it, just left a bleach mark. I have since line-x'ed my 2004. 5 ctd and the interior of ny 2001 tj without ever having a chip. I mean bricks and trash and rock's in the back of my 2001 dakota and never a problem.

My truck came with a plastic bedliner (mopar). I pulled it out and had my bed sprayed with Line-X. Very happy with the job my installer did.

I have (on three occasions) put a full pallet of blocks (~3700#'s each!) in the bed. The forklift didn't have long forks so they set the pallet on the back and pushed it forward into the bed. You can't tell they did it.

It looks better than the plastic, and I'm sure it'll hold up better, too,.

Just do it!

If his Rhino Chips the bed was not prepared correctly. I have had Rhino for years on many pickups. Tools don't slide. Bed is now rust proof. Truck is much quiter. I also had my rockers sprayed for stone chips. Rhino was the first one out.

I've had my last 3 done and this 05 is going in in 2 weeks to get line-x done. In my opinion the Rhino is to soft and sharp things tend to dig in. I use mine for work and such and have hauled a bunch of blocks and heads and have never dug it up. The only time that I damaged it was moving a seat from one of the work trucks and the guy at the shop got in a hurry and caught the edge of the tail gate and chiped it. But that goes back to the prep.

I've had both the line XI and the Rhino. The only thing about spray in liners is that when you drop the heavier things the bed will still dent leaving you with a dented truck bed with a spray in liner.

I've yet to see the rust these spray in guys are talking about brought on by the drop in liners??. Living here in So Ca the rust just isn't a problem IMHO.

Mac

Think Bed Rug, very tough stuff and when you have to crawl in the back of the bed it is very easy on the knees. Also very easy to clean and looks great.

I have to say that I love my line-x. I had the bed and my tank/toolbox sprayed with it, and it's been fantastic. You can hit the whole bed with the pressure wand at the car wash and it blasts clean easily. I use the bed all the time and haven't had a problem yet with chipping. I've also dripped fuel on it and the mark that's left from the fuel blasts right off at the carwash too.

When I first got my tank/tool box it was 'powdercoated' from RDS. Well their powdercoat was more like black paint sprayed on a silver diamondplate box. It chipped and flaked off so easily, I had to be super careful about not bumping things into it, as the silver diamondplate was starting to show through in several areas. Now that I had the box line-x'ed, I never even think twice about it. It's kinda dirty in this pic, but it really does look nice when it's clean!

I have the Rhino sprayed in my 01 and just had it sprayed in the 05. I like it very much, very easily clean up if oil or what ever does spill and so far no prolems with chips in the 01 and they do get used around the farm.
