Is anybody going to Kentucky?

The MD-TDC and myself would like to thank all those that attended and participated!! A special thanks goes out to the crew at SGS Automotive!!! Their efforts go above and beyond and they are a large part of why these events are such a big hit!

Spring Fling 07 was again another successful event!!!

Please don't forget to set aside Aug. 11th for our 1st annual Drag & Dyno Day at Cecil County Dragway. Racer Tickets are still available and info can be found in the events section!

Thanks again,

Greg DaPron

MD-TDC Vice Pres.

I wasn't able to attend today, but we had an excellent turnout yesterday. Everyone had a great time, and he SGS crew handled all the trucks in a professional manner.

It was nice seeing everyone again. As Greg said, hope to see many of you in August, and then again for Fall Brawl.

Scott

The best numbers from the weekend and two wildcard entries for the Torque Shootout for this years "Fall Brawl" show are as follows... .

Dodge... ... ... NGM Diesel

Ford... ... ..... DockBoy

Chevy/GMC. . Tiny

1st Gen... ... . WannaDiesel

The 2 Wildcard entries for the Torque Shootout show are as folllows.....

KZimmerman's Fummins and ThugLike's Ford. Kia's Ford Cummins conversion was one of the nicest looking rides there and Thuggy's Ford showed this writer how bad eating crow really is. I hope both owners will return and join us for our fall show... ... ... Andy

I would like to thank all who attended this years event as it turned out bigger than I expected, considering we really didn't have the weather forecast in our favor. Both days were about as nice as one could have ever wanted with no rain falling on us at all. Sometimes I wonder how we keep dodging bullets like that but I am glad we do.

The SGS Performance crew went above and beyond and provided us with a first class facility for the show and showed us how to make it run efficiently. I know that without their help we would be lost and really enjoy our shows with them. A HUGE THANK YOU from the Mason-Dixon TDC to George,Dave,Jason,Toby and their ladies for a job well done.

As a club we have grown from a small little show which barely had 40 trucks at it to one which had 70 on Saturday and near 40 on Sunday. We dynoed all total 60 trucks for the first spring venture at 2 days. Its going to get bigger and we now have the ability by doing this to make it a very laid back show that all can enjoy.

Wheelspeed award on the dyno went to Andrew when his 01 Dodge sled puller, which finished 3rd the night before at the local Washington County pull, laid down a scary 160mph shot when dynoing. Somehow Interco never envisioned their TruxUs tires to go that fast I am guessing nor did they expect them to distort them like that either.

The hard luck award goes to RamSport01. Today when doing his pull he had the misfortune of loosing his headgasket. It was the first one that has been lost at our shows in a few years and hopefully he can get it fixed up and return.

In the "I should be sponsored" category...

Does anyone besides this writer think that ARP should step up and give Doug Leonhard a set of new head studs?. I am certain that as many times as he has lifted, banged, back fired or tried to blow up his motor and it still runs. He has have to tested the sheer strength limits of their product and yet he drives her home and to his fire calls daily as needed.

It was also nice to see the Ford IDI Group slip in and join us again and for them to park amongst the rest of the dieselheads. They were on their annual spring campout and joined us on Saturday for the festivities. See Mel,even the nasty old Goat owners don't bite and a good time can be had with us. Thanks for coming out and sharing your rides with us and your group is welcome with us anytime.

Thanks to our resident chefs,Chef Jim and Chef Keith for the nice job they did wheeling our grill. Its not easy when your cooking for crowd that can over run you easily once they smell the food but they managed.

IF ANYONE had any photo's they would like to share and/or be posted with the ones I have already recieved please email them to the club at -- email address removed -- . I always gather what I can and add them to our Google photo's for all to see or use as they desire.

All In All a great time was had, marvelous weather again and some of the East Coasts finest examples of diesel pickups were in abundance for all to see and enjoy. I am going to call it a night and tommorrow I will begin to gather and load the photos sent to me for all to see... THANKS For A Great Time... ... . Andy

Pardon me brother, can you help a fellow American who's down on his luck?

Had a great time! Very happy with results of my "spin on the drums". Bummed out about my buddy's truck "RamSport01" who lost his head gasket. A clarification, he lost it during his "very easy cool down run" after dynoing Sunday, so at least the dyno bay wasn't swashed with oil. To make matters worse he only had about 2,000 miles on it and it blew in the same place as it did prior. Looks as if Jet Pilot and Brandon are going to get it apart and back together for him this week.

I notice Hammer posted above, "The hard luck award goes to RamSport01. Today when doing his pull he had the misfortune of loosing his head gasket. "

HAMMER,

After reading this "honorable mention", my decrepit mind started turning . . . Why not put together a prize ($$$) for the unfortunate winner of the "Hard Luck Award"?

I wonder if we could do a $10 a head thing for those that wanted to "chip in" and help out a fellow brother who may end up being down on his luck after trying to have some fun? Maybe we could do this going forward? As we pull in to dyno we could be asked if we'd like to (optional) put $10 towards the unfortunate winner of the event's "Hard Luck Award". In addition to posting who the winner was, what the catastrophe that earned them the prestigious award, also post the amount $$$ that was graciously contributed by all whom attended and presented to the winner. Whether there's a winner or not (and hopefully there won't be in the future) the $$$ collected can be added to the final post, if no winner the $$$ can be set aside for the next SGS Performance (Spring/Fall) event.

Whatever $$$ awarded could be used towards: towing, lodging, parts, whatever the case, it would be less “out of pocket” for the unfortunate winner and a show of good faith from all who attended. Not only that, but it could help the winner feel a bit less "bummed out" and really prove that we are all brothers and sisters on God’s great earth.

Just an idea? I'd be happy to volunteer a few hours each day to solicit folks as they are being strapped down.

Sounds like a decent idea? Let me know.

Sounds like the truck will be back together by Thursday night, now o-ringed & studded instead of just studs. With any luck it'll hold together this time. Its starting to get expensive (this will be the second headgasket in a month). Oh well at least I know why the truck made so much less power. Thanks to everyone for a good weekend and those who offered up help and suggestions. Joe Mc, thanks for the ride back to my shop to pick up the POS 6. 0 Ford 550, call me this week, I owe ya a tank of diesel.

Robert...

So I wasn't the only one who noticed that eh... .

The newest Mason-Dixon disease to go along with the already running rampant "Stackitis" is now called "Twinsitis".

I am afraid that we are being passed by on this one for some reason.

Also forgotten was My Legal council Ernie and is attempt to put those noisy stacks on my truck. Boy am I glad that someone bought them as I begininng to think that they would end up on my truck because he was very determined.

Joe Mc. .

I would agree that it is something we could do and I will remember your offer to help with it. My only question would be this... IF no one has a misfortune when we roll, then what do we do with the collection pot, donate it to charity or allow it to build for the next show?.

RamSport01...

We all did some bench tuning after you left the other night and wondered why it happened to you. None of us knew you only had the gasket done and not o-ringed or fire ringed the motor. Just make sure they pull her down tight when they torque the head and retorque it also. Factory specs are too light and you will need to go tighter. If there is anything we can do all you need to do is ask..... Andy

Hammer,

I didn't have time to have the truck down for o-rings last time, but it was studded. I was gonna have Jetpilot do it this summer, but the stock headgasket decided it couldn't wait. On the final torque on the studs they were taken down to 132. Hopefully Jetpilot will have it all back together on Thursday so I can stop driving this POS PSD. Once again I appreciate everyone's help and offer to help. I find Saturday's dyno numbers interesting, my truck was exactly the same as at the Fall Brawl except for the headgasket and studs. I took Smarty out for the run on Saturday and made 424/997, in the fall with Smarty in SW8 I made 477/994. Then every run after that just kept getting worse. So I think the gasket was leaking then. Then just look at the numbers for Sunday :{

Andy,

Good idea to donate to a charity. Only thing is which one will be best suited for our group, we could take a vote?

I think, if not awarded, then rolling it to the next event would be good idea. We could start in the fall and if not awarded roll to the spring - if 70 trucks donate $10 = $700 at each event = $1500 - then once we hit 2 events and it's not awarded then donate it and start new the following fall. This way the $$$ never gets to be too much just sitting out there. And hopefully it would always get donated in the name of Mason-Dixon or TDR or whatever - "The Spring Fling / Fall Brawl Bunch" ???

So another thing - we'd have to figure out how to determine the award winner. We don't want it going to someone that got a flat tire or threw a universal. So it would have to be a catastropic failure that renders the truck undrivable I. E. head gasket, blown turbo, trans, rear etc - a major drivetrain failure related to the event.

And, if 2 trucks were to fail do we award to the one with the worst failure or determine percentage based on type failure and split 60/40 or whatever?

Regardless of the details I think it's a great idea and could help out with at least towing or parts. I like the donate to charity if not used idea too - very good one.

Let's try to work out some details as we go forward before the Brawl. I'm sure we won't have any problems getting folks to spend an hour or so soliciting. We will have to keep records of the folks who donated and post a "thanks to those who donated" type thing. I'm willing and able to aid you with some of this as I know it's not a walk in the park just trying to set up the event so, I'm there if needed. Let me know.

By the way - Matt and I will be shooting up to Jet Pilot's place to get his truck when it's done, Thursday, pending any unforeseen complications. "Everybody - Keep your fingers crossed that all goes well for Matt's repair".

Thanks,

Joe Mc

Just wanted to say, I think this was the best Spring Fling yet, and it keeps getting better every year.

Thanks to SGS for their hard work, and allowing us to use their facility, and thanks to Hammer for coordinating the event.

And thanks, Keith for the help on the grill.

And I finally broke 400 with the dinosaur. :D

Looking forward to Fall Brawl. :D

This was my first Spring Fling and my first diesel pickup event period. I thought it was great! Talked with some real nice people, the trucks there awesome, and SGS did a great job! I felt so bad for those guys running the dyno... they looked like a bunch of coal miners by the end of the day:) I'm looking forward to Fall Brawl. Oh, and nice pics Andy:)
