what is the purpose of those clamps? i have seen them on the turbo systems of some trucks and am just curious. do they apply more pressure or more even pressure or what?

Even pressure and not total locked in the joint thus allowing some heat creep between the pipe and turbo body. But it also allows some wear at the joint.

i have seen them on the tubing and blue hose joints too. the reason i ask is that after i totally sealed my wg my truck blew one of the tubes out of the hose while i was climbing. talk about some egt. (had to make it to the turn out). put it back together and sure enough it did it again later up the grade. when i got to the track i removed the tube and took it to my buddies top alcohol pit (he has a tig welder). i just welded a small bead around ea end so it couldnt push out again. so far so good but one of these days i will probably replace the hoses (what is the correct term for those things?) that connect the tubes to the ic and motor and i was just wondering about the spring clamps.

thanks

DOn, I think they are to apply even pressure, and to avoid overtightening (though in my experience, that is nearly impossible).

Where was the hose blowing off from? All the pipes and elbows have a ridge on them to help keep the hump hoses on there when you tighten the clamp.
