Don't know if this is the right forum for this question but--- I think I am getting some twisting on my axle when my trailer is heavily loaded and I am accelerating. I think what is happening is that the springs are allowing the axle to twist and what I'm feeling is the universal joints in a bind. Don't know if I explained that very well but I feel a heavy vibration under acceleration with a heavy load. Any comments would be appreciated.

I experience it all the time. I am planning on a Keldeman 4 link suspension. That should eliminate the problem. Check @ http://www.keldermanmfg.com. It's not cheap, but I believe you get what you pay for. Watch out for the Rancho traction bars, I heard from many folks they cannot hold up to the axle torque or the Cummins Hope this helps.

Sounds like axle wrap to me, your symptoms sound familiar. I think we are seeing more post on this because of the new longer and lighter rear springs they are now using. This is the third or Fourth post I have seen in the last few weeks. I have a 2nd gen, and a Ford, both run traction bars to cure this problem. There are several brands that have bolt on kits, FabriTech, FabTech, Rancho, and Tough Country too name a few. For some reason there isn't too many that make a kit specifically for the 2500-3500 Dodge.

I have the exact same thing. Only happens through the first three gears and feels like a shudder. Like BMancin I'm planing on air ride so I haven't worried about it but a good set of traction/ladder bars should fix the problem for less money.

Thanks for the replies, I couldn't figure how to word it for the search forum. I guess I'll look into some traction bars, never used them before but I guess there is a first time for everything.

Members jhardwick and rob thomas are both working on traction bars for our trucks. Superlift is about a month away from releasing theirs.

Another thing you may want to consider is your driveline angles. It seems that DC is having a hard time getting the angles correct. Especially on the trucks that have the two piece rear driveline (not sure which truchs have the two piece rear).

Weight and towing can cause driveline angle problems in two ways. One, any additional weight on the bed of the truck causes the rear suspension to squat and change the driveline angles just a little bit. Second, the additional weight requires more than normal torque through the drivetrain which causes axle wrap. The axle wrap directly affects the driveline angles.

If your truck happens to be borderline good on driveline angles then the additional weight or axle wrap could push the angles over the edge.

Poor driveline angles have been responsible for everything from severe vibration at speed to launch shudder. Some members, myself included, have eliminated launch shudder by adjusting driveline angles.

In fact my truck had launch shudder AND a severe vibration at about 68 mph (4. 10 gear). When I adjusted the angles I actually moved them to the far side of nominal. In other words, any suspension squat or axle wrap will first cause my angles to move towards nominal and then as axle wrap contines the angle will move away from nominal.
