OK, before I say anything, I am NOT bashing ANYONE or ANY PRODUCT!!! I am just asking questions.

Earlier this evening I was driving my truck home on a two lane road and had to pass someone. No big deal, got on it and passed them. I did hear a pop noise and suddenly got a little scared, almost $&@! my pants. Got to looking at my gauges and had high egts and no boost. Once I could think straight I realized that it was likely to be a blown boot. Limped the truck on home the last mile and popped the hood. Found the first boot to have come loose, not even blown. Well Im lucky, i was thinking. Then when I was loosening the clamps and getting the tube and boot lined back up, I noticed some oil in the boot. First thing I did was check the oil level. I was three quarts low! Now I have only had this turbo on for about ten thousand miles and hasnt been pushed hard. It has seen 50 lbs once and is now set at 45. Has anyone else had this problem with II turbos? And I know they are a reputable company, but does anyone know what I can expect to hear from them tomorrow when I give them a call? Just a little worried and hoping I can get a little piece of mind.

anyone?

I suspect mine for leaking oil on the turbine side and causing some grey/blue smoke but seem to be ok on the intake side. Never had it loose to see for sure

Wow noticed you have almost identical setup as mine even same graphite grey!

How did your sps spool before the cam?

I feel like my pump is bad worn it takes for ever to light then its laggy up to 50 lbs
best is a cool night and a good hill in 5x4

I only made 432 recently on a dynojet 248 but it was at 3300 ft and a hot dank 94 degrees

I had an SPS62 go south on my CR after 1k. First I noticed blue smoke after idling at a stop for a minute or two, and then excellerating off, it would clean up, but then next stop same thing.

I had oil dripping out my tailpipe, when I checked shaft play, I had almost a 1/16" axial play.

I called Brady@II, ( I had just completed a round trip to Helena on this new charger), He had me check my drain tube first, because any obstruction in the drain will cause it to backup oil into the journal bearings and leak. No obstructions, 03 drain tube is solid off the turbo to a hose connected to a fitting into the block. After convincing Brady that my intake was not too restrictive (AFE Stage II), and that it did indeed have axial play, he agreed to warranty it.

He wanted me to remove and send it back in, he would check it out, repair and send it back. I did not want to be without a vehicle for that long, so some more arm twisting :-laf. Brady finally agreed to send me a new replacement so I could change it out on the weekend and send the original one back to II.

When I removed the turbo, I noticed I also had oil in my boost hose... crap. The charge air cooler is not fun to clean out, at least not in your driveway.

I opened up the box for my new turbo, and it had this nice polished housing? Compared it to the SPS, looked the same except the turbine wheel had trimmed/clipped fins. Called II, Brady not there, gave them the tag info. . I had in my possesion a Silver62. I installed it, sent my old one back to II.

Brady called me about a week later, said my oil analysis was good, that the thrust bushing on the compressor side was bad, and how did I like my new turbo... :-laf, We agreed on some ridiculously low amount of compensation and all was good.

I believe II will treat you right!

EDIT: I regret using the phrase "go/gone/went south", As far as I am concerned, the South had it right. And before anyone starts screaming, I am not refering to slavery, that was wrong.

If Lee would have listened to Longstreet... . , we would not have this chicago pimp in the position of power today, determined to ruin America. Instead, America would be in it's full Glory!

Wow thats awesome JJPage, Im glad that they were able to take care of you and even throw in a little something extra! And just to make it clear, I never thought that there was a chance of me getting screwed with any customer service from them, I was just wondering if any of you had heard of this. I talked to them the other day and was told my pro guard 7 was not the preferred filter, especially being a couple years old, and that it was probably creating a vacuum that caused the compressor side to leak. Pulled the down pipe loose real quick and was dry. So i ordered just the plain blue five layer filter as suggested by them.

Rivercat, couldnt tell you exactly how much the cam helped because I installed it the same time i did the turbo and injectors. But, I can tell you that my current setup spooled almost the same as my old one with the stock turbo with a 14cm housing and 75 horse injectors. And I never dynoed so I cant compare there, but sure would like to when I get the chance

I will say that I broke down and bought a K& N recharge kit and cleaned my AFE. You wouldn't believe how nasty it was... my truck spools a little better and smokes way less on higher comp levels. Boys keep them filters clean

I plan on taking my intake plate off and milling the reinforcing ribs and the big lip on the bottom of the square hole off and trying to get the injector lines cleaned up with scotch brite to maybe stop the leaks and see if this don't maybe make a 40 or 50 hp difference with the clean filter...
