Don't get too excited, there is only a few pictures. However, it makes reference to a "NEW CUMMINS ENGINE?" Also, I'm referencing a public article, not something copy written (so as to not violate posting rules). I was going to buy an '08 but now I may wait.

Spy Shots: 2009 Dodge Ram

Just because Chrysler Corp. was sold doesn't mean work on upcoming vehicles has slowed any. Shots of the 2009 Dodge Ram have surfaced and show a new direction for the full-size truck that started the "big rig" look. The new Ram will have a front end with a lot less surface area than the current model in order to improve the truck's aerodynamics and hopefully increase fuel economy as a result. Through the camoflouge we can see a grille not unlike that of the Charger's, with a chunky crosshair grille that's pitched forward.

Pickuptruck.com is reporting that the 2009 Dodge Ram will receive a completely new slate of engines that includes the 4. 0L V6 from the Dodge Nitro with 260 hp and 265 ft-lbs. of torque, the 4. 7L V8 from the Dakota producing 300 hp and 330 ft-lbs. of torque, and a new HEMI V8 with greater displacement than the current 5. 7L. There will also be a new Cummins diesel V8 on the option sheet. Every engine will be available with a six-speed automatic, as well.

This particular development mule was found testing along with current Dodge Rams and a 2007 Toyota Tundra. It's interesting that no F-150s or Silverados were along for the ride, though were sure Dodge is planning to make its new Ram competitive with the entire field of competition, and not just Toyota's new Tundra.

#1, The V8 Cummins is for the 1500's... it is not for use in the 2500/3500/4500/5500 trucks... . this engine was announced last fall... 5. 6L in displacement.

#2, Although you can't see it very well in those two photos... if Dodge has done away with the 'big rig' styling, they are making a huge mistake.

#3, Can anyone tell if that Quad Cab is larger than the current Quad Cab or did it remain unchanged?? I know this is a big sticking point amongst some in the Dodge community.

fwiw, I was reading over at allpar and they say that the only thing on that truck that is from the 2009 is the front clip, the rest of the test mule is a current model. Supposedly testing the cooling ability of the new front end design... supposed to have a forward slant to it ala the Dodge Charger.

If they messed with the hood, fuggetaboudit!! That will deeeeestroy the aesthetic appeal of the Ram...

Well, many a OTR driver said KW T600s were ugly when they first came out, but look at the trend now in OTR trucks. Call it the aerodynamicization of the Ram, because that's what it is. I'm withholding my judgement until I actually see it. As long as it doesn't look too much like the current Dakota/Durango, I think it will be OK.

Who cares what it looks like. What matters is if the truck will do the job.

I heard that!

Increase the fuel mileage with aerodynamics, work any bugs out of the new 6. 7 that show up, improve the AC system, add a few inches to the quad cab or give the mega cab a long bed...

and I've got my checkbook standing by!:D

I'm starting to like my 2nd gen (paid off, no EGR etc) better and better now we have the fuel system / VP44 reliability about figuered out.

80k on the way to 1000k

I would like to have my checkbook out for a new truck next year. But after looking a just a regular cab 3500 CC 4X4 with a dump body on the lot in Exeter NH ... I think you have to knock off a bank just for the down payment!

How in the heck are you people able to afford a 50K truck!!!!

And what the heck is going to be the price of the 4500/5500 trucks!!!

My old machine is rusting out bad and showing it age in the engine/transmission department. These new fangled computer trucks seem to be hornets nests waiting to be poked with their potential problems and bad milage.

How the heck can a tradesman afford these trucks for their business anymore!

Have you looked at new farm equipment prices lately?

What bugs are you talking about? Mine runs great and only issue is the slight lower MPG.

I have not heard of any bugs and hope nothing does show. There are always "improvements" that are offered as flashes or something, especially with new technology.

It certainly seems the new power train combo is well engineered.

Cheers!
