I keep getting a squeak (not a rattle) from the rear of the vehicle. It is only noticeable when I start out and shift from 2nd to 3rd, etc. -also squeaks at slow speeds going over bumps. I solved part of the problem at first (but it keeps coming back-may be something in addition) by placing some fireproofing material between the exhaust and the rear skid plate, this solved the problem but the squeak returns. I suspect the skid plate was pressed hard-up against the exhaust when the vehicle was buried up to its axles.
I am beginning to suspect something else is lose? touching? and causing the squeak noise. Problem is more prevalent in Oklahoma winters... ... ... ... .....
Suspecting U-joints, I did replace the rear drive shaft U-joints (88,000 mi. , one of the 4 bearing rubber seals was damaged with rusted roller bearings) but did not solve the squeak. Drive-Line Specialists that did the work said by 100,000 miles lots of U-joints on Dodges NEED to be checked-replaced!
Anyone had similar issues? SUGGESTIONS of what to check.
Thanks
Bill

I had a u joint that got tight and started squeaking in reverse and slow speeds. Take the driveshaft out and rotate each u joint to make sure.
