fuel filter question

I've been having a really bad problem with my brakes squeaking. It started after i changed my rotors and my pads because one of the one of the pads was digging into the rotor so i decided i would just change both sides. Now these pads are giving off allot of brake dust and seem to be starting to put grooves in the rotors and my pickup is sort of shaking a little when i brake hard. Has anyone ever had this problem?? The brakes not only squeak when i brake but when i'm driving also.

"C",

What kind of pads did you put on your truck? 'Lifetime warranty' semi-metallic pads are harder than stock and can cause grooves to be ground in the rotors. As for the squeaks, did you apply any anti-squeak spray or glue to the back of the pads? Also try to make sure the ears on the pads are tight to the calipers. I used to actually hammer the ears tight to the calipers way back when I was a mechanic. I'll assume you don't have sticking calipers as they can cause the brakes to get hot, squeak and cut grooves too.

Did you turn the rotors when you replaced the pads?

If you didn't the wobble you are getting is warped rotors. The brake dust is caused from the same problem. The pads are trying to seat themselves in to a set of warped rotors.

Where did you buy the pads also. A hard set of pads will squeak most of the time. I use NAPA pads most of the time. I haven't had any problems with them over the years.

Did you clean up the slides the calipers mount on. If they are rusted up. This can cause binding. It can also not allow the caliper to move freely and hold to much pressure on the pads. This can cause the squeaking and dust problems.

Have you replaced the flex lines on the front calipers? If one of them is going bad (inside the hose) it can stop the fluid from returning to the master cyl. This can cause squeaking and dust and short pad life.

New calipers???

Does anyone know what the part number for the calipers are for my pickup. I called autozone and they told me the calipers were only $28. 00. I thought this was a little weird so i haven't really thought about changing them yet. well i haven't really done anything yet. my brakes still squeak but i haven't really had any money or time to work on them. thanks allot for the good tips and hopefully i can tell you guys i'm done with this problem someday. The grooves that were starting are gone now but i still have allot of breakdust. That breakdust doesn't compliment my new wheels very much. well check out my pickup on the readers rigs. Hopefully i'll have some new pictures on there sometime. It looks a little different than those pictures now.

Thanks allot for everything

Chris

I put new Az pads, rotors, calipers on mine and it had the same squeaking. 500 miles later i couldn't take it any more and got the performance friction pads and instant smiles. No more noise.
