I've got a constant squeak/creak from the drivers side of the dash in my 92 W250. It drives me nuts!. I know there is a TSB on this problem but have yet to read it. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and fixed it per the TSB. How much work is involved to tear down to the cowl where the crack is?

Second question. My truck must idle for long periods of time in the winter to keep my vet box from freezing. I do have an ebrake that I could leave on during idling or would it be better to install a hand throttle? Just worried about keeping the engine temp and oil pressure up during the hour + idle that commonly occurs.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I had the same click for a long time also. I found my crack by opening the door all the way and looking at the top between the inner fender and the cab frame. You will see where the sheet metal rolls over towards the engine compartment. My crack was right there. I stop drilled the crack and welded it up. Nice and quiet now. The Dodge fix was quite expensive in labor if I remember right.

Same noise, same problem. The TSB says they have a fix to weld over it. For me, it was just open the door, take something long that would reach it, strike it hard with a hammer to move the metal rubbing against each other. This did take care of the noise for now but I know it is only a temporary fix. Welding is the way too go.

Hey CowDoc!

Welcome aboard the First Generation Forum!

Yes a few of us have done the "Cowl Repair" gig. Many of the details can be found be using the "search" button and typing in "Cowl Cracks" for the search. I had mine done and the only problem I had was continuously getting the wrong side reinforcement from Dodge. It appears that you get the "Passenger" side reinforcement regardless of which P/N is supplied (I needed the Driver Side). I went through 3 orders before Dodge checked the 'bin' for correct side parts that correctly matched the P/N. Maybe they have it corrected by now.

Hope this helps.....
