My dad has an 06 with a G56. There are about 95K miles on it, and the clutch is still original.

He recently has started hearing a squeak during deceleration in 2nd and 3rd gear. It's quiet and may be there at higher speeds, but is masked by road noise.

The squeaking is only on deceleration, and when he depresses the clutch pedal it stops.

What could be causing this?

Southbend has released an all organic single that they rate to 425 hp. It's in our mag. I wish that had ben available awhile ago.

We were under the impression the DMF rattled when failing, not squeaks.

A SBC SMF is on the list.

IIRC, The DMF uses some sort of rubber "bushings" to help join the separate pie es together. Squeaks, groans, rattles and clanks are not unheard of. My clutch and dmf were actually in remarkably good shape considering that It had been slipping for several years before I replaced it with the SNC con ofe that I won here on TDR.

It turns out it was the u-joint on the transfer case that was making the noise. All 3 in the rear shaft were replaced with greasable units.

So far the DMF is going strong, just put another 1500 miles on it last week towing, and will be doing another 1500 this coming weak with a slide-in and a small trailer. The old man may be one of the lucky ones!
