I made a few trips to bakersfield and back earlier this month and my Jacobs exhaust brake that I just installed is squealling now when engaged going downhill with a load. If I'm empty then there is no squeal. I put the brake on myself about a month ago and It worked great then. It still works fine now, but It makes a loud squealing noise when I engage it. I rechecked the torque on the flange going to the turbo and also from the turbo to the exhaust manifold, then also from the manifold to the block. I don't see any carbon buildup and everything was tight.

Has anybody else experienced this????? Please help, it's driving me crazy.

No problems with mine yet, maybe yours isn't closing all the way, and the screech is a little exhaust getting by the butterfly?? That's all I can think of, check the butterfly movement. Let me know if you find anything! :D

I had a similar problem and eventually found a cracked exhaust manifold. Also check innercooler boots for leaks.

Found it! I'm missing a bolt. I swear I went through all of them to recheck torqe. It's the bottom one underneath. Knowing me I rechecked the same bolt underneath and missed that one! :{

Anybody know what size the bolts are. Otherwise I'll have to pull one off to check size. TIA

If you're referring to one of the five capscrews that attach the brake to the turbocharger, the capscrews came with the exhaust brake and are Mopar P/N 05017006AA & Cummins P/N 3530556 (E BRAKE by Jacobs Parts Manual). I don't know the size. I imagine they are a bit longer than the OEM capscrews that you removed when the elbow was removed—still got 'em?

If you're referring to one of the two bolts that attach the brake to the downpipe, they're Dodge P/N 6100940 BOLT, Hex Flange Head. They are M10x1. 5x50.

Thanks, it's one of the five. I don't really want to have to go to cummins to get them, I'm hoping to be able to stop by Napa. I'll probably just pull one to compare to.

Thanks again for the input

I guess I am too late. I have the same thing. back top bolt and spacer gone. Cummins has spacers on hand but waiting for a bolt. I normaly check them every service, but I did not this time. I will next time.
