My 96 has started squeeking while turning. Searches here make me think its the front axle u joint. I am considering the hub bearing replacement and ball joints while i am in there. I can feel a thunk in the floor while going over bumps. Thoughts? Encouragement? Warnnings? Lol

I think an axle u joint would squeak as long as you were moving..... the noise might get worse when turning/articulating the joint though.
Ball joints can make a squeak also whe they're totally dried out. if you had a helper you could get under the truck while they turn the wheel back and forth so you can pin point where it is coming from easier.

Axle u-joint wouldn't squeak unless you're turning. When the wheel is straight, there is no twisting of bearings, only when turning.

If you're feeling rich, it's a good time to just do it all. If you haven't had them done before, the unit bearings might be a real bugger to get out. We usually end up grabbing the torches and going to town. Start soaking them in the best rust eating penetrating oil you can find. When you put everything back together, a light coat of anti-seize or grease will make the job easier down the road. Don't get the cheap stuff either, I can't tell you how many times we've sent stuff back or had to re-do jobs due to cheap parts.

... ... also check your shocks and bushings. The thunk over bumps and such are probably the shocks bushings or upper rubbers.
