Well, if this is a duplicate of someone elses findings, sorry bout that. The very annoying birds chirping under my dash turns out to be the gear selector. When I put a little downward pressure on it, the birds go away. ZTonight I'll crawl under there (no easy task for me) and see if I can exterminate the birds

If my truck had been an automatic, the technique you describe may have helped. You may be placing pressure on the clockspring assembly just below the steering wheel and causing the squeek to stop.

However, with a 6 speed, there is no gear shift to bias. The defective clockspring was obviously the culprit.

If it is the clockspring, the dealer fix should take less than an hour and it will fail anyway, taking the airbag and cruise controls with it.

Good Luck

Harry
