Is there a difference in performance, egts. etc. or is it just a "sound" preference (i. e. drone, rumble)? Can't decide between the Geno's MEK or the MBRP.

as long as you get a quality muffler thats free flowing, there is probably very little difference than that of a straight pipe set up. it will however be louder when its straight through, and i like it that way... . in my opinion.

A straight pipe system will have a really bad drone inside the cab. If you go with the MBRP muffler it is a high flow straight through muffler. It will keep the drone out of the cab.

Having done both the MBRP and the straight pipe, there is no difference in sound in the cab between the 2, they both drone.

I am current;y straight piped

My 95 had no drone with a straight pipe. The 12 valve sounded good that way. The 05 with a straight pipe was much louder inside the cab and the drone was very noticeable. Also had a tinny sound. A lot different than the 12 valve. I went to NAPA and bought a Walker straight through Diesel muffler. The cost was less than $90. Sound and turbo whistle is very much louder than stock, though there's no drone now. .

It seems that very truck is different; literally. I straight-piped mine and it had a terrible drone around 40-55mph. I reluctantly installed a MBRP 4" muffler and now have zero drone and a much better sound than stock. I have had freinds install both the silent might (Roktek) and the MBRP and experienced drone. Who knows. I do know that on my particular truck, the MBRP has worked very well, even though the shop had to fab-up some adapters to fit my crazy OEM 3. 5"-4" exhaust.

I just recently swapped out the stock muffler for a Donaldson 51" the sound is AWESOME. I don't notice any drone 65 to 80 mph but that might be different with a trailer. The reason I say that is; around town when the motor is lugging a little a seem to notice a little more engine noise that any other time. (40 to 50 mph). But at WOT the truck comes to life and the sound difference is minor. I really like the way the truck sounds at idle, did I use the word Awesome yet. ;) Have I mentioned not being able to find my CAT under the truck, must have ran off.

My original exhaust was really quiet. I first changed out the muffler with the Geno's MEK and the sound was loud with some drone around the 45-60 MPH range, especially with the TC locked at 50. Now with my 5 inch system, the noise is reduced and no drone. I've seen maybe a 1 MPG increase since the entire exhaust was swapped.

How about the fact that my 06 has a resonator after the muffler. If I get the MEK and leave the res. will it help knock out some of the drone? I plan on leaving the cat either way.

Thanks for all the inputs.

Thanks for all the inputs.

From the replies you have seen that some people have drone problems, straight piped or straight thru mufflered, and some don't. I have a Banks straight through and it sounds great... . no drone. Turn up the stereo!!!!

Yes. Most (maybe all) 06's have a res. after the muffler. Heard they are just a st. through that's supposed to knock the sound down a bit. I plan on leaving it along with the cat for now.

I just picked up some dynamat extreme off amazon cheap, will try to soundproof the floors and back of cab to get rid of the "drone". Fingers crossed...
