BF Goodrich 235/85 16 Tire Recall!

Copper River 5th wheels

I know this has been discussed at length many times, but the threads always get so long, and I'm only now in need of tires. This is my 22ft toy hauler. It currently has ST225X75R15's, and I believe the general consensus on here (as I recall) is to move up a size and get LT to get out of the Chinese made tires? If I recall it correctly, what size and any brands to look at and/or avoid?

Called a truck tire dealer today, and they said they have the Goodyear in 225 size, but not many other options for 15" wheels. They also called to my attention that when I have it fully loaded, I'm at the limit of the capacity of those 4 tires. So, I'll price changing to 16" wheels and see what options he has then.

Now you're up to speed with the issues and solutions. What is your trailer? Tell us what brand, size, and GVWR is printed on the VIN sticker on the left front and we can advise you.

22' Carson toy hauler. GVWR is 9995. It's got 5200lb axles with 6 lug wheels. And, I use every bit of that when I put my Jeep inside of it.

If they'll fit, which I expect they will, six lug 16" wheels with LT225/75R16 LRE tires should fit and work nicely. You'll never have another tire failure if you buy good American tires. NO Chicomm willpops! Ignore the tire store liars.

The nearby dealer that specializes in trucks and trailers, quoted me on 225x75x16 for Goodyear Wrangler HT, and also Goodyear G947 (which seems like overkill), and also Hancook Dynapro HT. (and new wheels for about $90 each if I still want chrome).

Make sure the wheels are E rated (80psi, not 65psi). No use in having the uprated tires if the rims fail. You'll also need to make sure the tires will fit both in the wheel well and between the tires. If I remember correctly, you'll pick up about an inch in tire height with the 16's.

GY Wranglers were OEM tires on large fifthwheels for a time back in the '90s. They earned a bad reputation for failures.

My choice would be BFG commercial/TA or Michelin. Hankooks are good on farm trailers and lawn tractors.
