well I did it. Stacked the Van Aaken duration box with the Van Aaken pressure box. by now anyone reviewing my posts has probably concluded that I'm a fan of duration without pressure, and that a little pressure is cool. I'm also a big fan of simple installs.

Well VA nailed it for the 305 anyway. The only thing missing is timing and of course I'll be waiting for that. But as far a fuel is concerned I gotta say the stacked combo is nice! no stumble, the idle is just like stock, and holy cow this thing drives GREAT.

got 'em from Danny at Precision Diesel. he was the one who told me about being cautious to stack on a 600, but that the 305 might be different.

So far I have only 10 miles on the stacked combo. all city driving. It can really put on a smoke show, compared to my 02 + EZ, but the drivability is very nice on the 6 speed. I'll be trying the pressure box on level 1, which has been of interest to me for some time now.

I can't get to a dyno for a while, so thats disapointing. and I don't have a pyro yet so I just won't get on it without the guages. But I wanted at least to report on driveability and smoke. it will be interesting to see what pressure level 1 will do.

No flame intended, but you guys addding boxes with no guages is killing me! Not only are you risking your engine, but it would be great info to have on the boards if people knew what your egt's were w/ a particular setup.

My VA duration box is stacked with the Edge EZ I had before hand. I agree the littel extra pressure does wonders with the duration. I have the Edge on level 2 and witht he VA on the 100% setting I get a GREAT combo. A little smoke when I shift and a steady stream once I hit third gear. My egt's hit a max of around 1450 -1500*, max boost is around 36 - 38 then levels off and drops a few and I did manage to pull the fuel pressure down to a vacuum and then let off. On the 50% setting it is a sheer joy to drive, lots of power and no boost / egt/ fuel pressure worries!

not to worry. I'm being a model citizen now keeping my foot off the floor :D gauges and air coming soon.

What settings are the smoke show?

egt gauges are over rated. lol

1. You don't have gauges

2. You watch gauges(1500)

3. You go from 1500 to 2000 degree

4. You ignore it and watch the road and ditches

Guess were I'm at!

Both boxes on 3 or just the L2? I have the L1 and get 0 smoke on #3 setting.

I don't want smoke I was just curious what the settings on the stacked config was with all the smoke.

The CP3-L2 will give you a nice little smoke show on the top setting. I would imagine that with the addition of the pressure box it would be even better. I'm about to find out...

Here's my smoke report:

duration box alone on level 2: you can make some good smoke at low rpms and low speeds when the turbo has not spooled up yet. that condition aside, there is only light smoke/haze when you get on it and you have enough air.

Adding the pressure box just ratchets up the previous statement. with box boxes turned all the way up you can blow very nice black billows of smoke.

right now I have turned off the duration box and I'm running only the pressure box, just to get to know that one for a bit. its a nice box in its own right. no smoke, good torque gains in the region you drive in the most, and then it backs off at the high end to protect your EGTs. The truck feels to me like it is just whistling dixie with this box -- no strain whatsover. even when I get on it.

I won't get on it with the duration box on there because I have no idea where my EGTs are. sounds like some guys out there don't know how to set boundaries for themselves :D

I too cant believe that your first bomb Doug wasn't a EGT guage. When you install it you will be supprised at how hot just pressure will send your egt's. I would say that with both you will be seeing somewhere around 1400*+++. With an EZ I can see 1400* WOT at 95 mph. Thats with intake, exhaust, and Bomber Lite turbo... ...

Once you have your gauge I bet that no matter what the readings are you will still romp on it for 10-15 seconds anyway.

I was surprised to hear that L2 smokes on the first setting with no L1 dialed in.

Thanks for the info and testing these together:D

yes, well not to worry, the EGT gauge will happen soon. wouldn't think of putting a box on except for a short time (before EGT gauge) and with lots of self control :D.

I haven't gone past 1/2 throttle at low speeds and 75 mph top speed under cruise.

DYNO on the 600

Doug,

Did you speak with Danny? They dyno'd the 600 with the duration box the other day. He said the rear wheel was 121hp.

Peak

Doug,

Not really sure. We just had a short conversation, I had a screaming 2 year old.

Give him a call, he may be able to send you the dyno.

It was an interesting story, ask him about the engine with the new edge box (I guess I should say the former engine).

:D
