Stacks and Horses

Okay, I'm thinking really hard about going to stacks. The only thing holding me back is the fact that I use my truck to haul horses to competitions. I would like to go with a set of miter cut stacks that pop up a few inches above the cab. Do you think this will cause problems i. e. smoke creeping into the horse trailer?

I would think that naturally you will be allowing more fumes into the trailer because of the positioning. I'm thinking of leaving my present exhaust in place when I put my stacks in. Then I will use flex pipe and a little ingenuity to switch back and forth if I need to for say pulling animals, an open boat or putting a slip-on in the bed.

I have a single stack on my 3500 and regularly pull GN stock trailers. I can't say that I have had any problem. There is no difference at idle that I can tell and I have yet to have an animal get sick from the setup. Been running it for almost 2 years. My stack is a 90 degree turnout on the right side.

One of my buddies did this with his exhaust but used 2 flanges one going out the rear and one going up into the stacks and a blocking plate he can switch back and forth. Works great! Just my $. 02

Probably better out the top. Diesel smoke is naturally light and rises from the exhaust pipes. That's why big trucks have them up high and not on the ground. They haul animals in trailers all the time.

Hmmmm good point..... I didn't think of that. Now I just have to figure out what to do with my toolbox, then start buying parts.
