2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Stacks Are.....

AWESOME! I just installed a 5" Stack kit with 5" turn out stacks... . But here 's my question... . I currently Have it straight piped... . It sounds great and all... . But... . The drone is bad once you start climbing the RPM's... . Will installing the Silencer Back on help with that? I dont want to kill that entire Big Rig Sound... . But I do need it cut back! I dont think the local Police would like me to much right now... . What are yall's suggestions?

see if it's the back wall of the cab buzzing, i am getting a little buzz with my straight pipes and just noticed when i am at the right rpm the back wall is humming and i can dampen it a little with my hand, ill come up with a coating or something and see what that does

This really isnt a "buzz" or "light rattle"... . Its just a loudness when your really on the Go Go Pedal... .

Well you can always do like whats done with my truck and line it with lead, but seriously if you want to cut down on the interior noise the best thing to do is put some sound deadening in. Especially on the roof and the back of the cab

when i say buzz i mean loudness transfered through the sheetmetal like it's a speaker, when the noise is going on put a hand back there if you have a regular cab and can reach and see if the wall is vibrating

not to high jack the thread... but do you stack guys have problems with soot covering the roof etc? just curious. I ordered as single stack kit and was wondering how close to the roof I can get.

my 99' was a quad cab. I hear that helps with the noise. When I did my stacks I had them sit about a foot higher than the cab and you could hardly hear them inside the truck. I didn't have any soot problems, but my truck was black. I am also concerned with this as I have a white truck now

My truck is white and i have 5" stacks on mine. Its a single cab and the stacks are sitting about 6 inch from the cab and have not had a single problem with soot on the roof, or much else. Only time that you will truly notice the soot is when it is raining or you just washed your truck. My truck has a good deal of sound deadening in it so the interior is actually pretty quiet.

Finally got the clutch replaced and the ole 97's back on the road. I have about 40 more miles on the break in than it will be making some smoke again

I've got dual 5'' straight cuts about 2-3 inches above the cab. I've never gotten rain or water down the stacks and I get a ton of soot all over the cab and bed. For me, start-up is the worst time. I have to make sure the driver door is closed every time I start the truck or soot gets into the cab.

I think it builds up in the y-pipe, then when starting it rattles and falls off, blowing all over the place. Just my thoughts.

Thanks for the input guys... . I Love the sound when the windows are up... . I just want to tame that hear pericing sound when the windows are down... . Oh mine is a Quad Cab too!

Sound deadener is a good thing, but also double check all your connections. Make sure your exhaust is tight, that will help a lot. The silencer ring in your turbo probably wont help as the problem is the resonant frequency of your exhaust system. My truck was obscenely loud and drove you out of the cab at around 1800 rpm. I added a walker muffler and everything is a lot more tolerable but the drone is still present at the same 1800ish rpm.

Not the Turbo Silencer But the Exhaust one... . I guess I keep calling it the wrong thing... I guess the proper word is resonator... .

I never found any muffler that cut down on resonance with stacks... I know that sounds impossible, but I tried TONS of combinations...
