My 16 year old nephew needs to replace the exhaust system on his '99 3500 and is wanting to install stacks.

He eMailed me and asked me that if he did this mod would there be a problem with the stacks being too close to the rear window glass?

Another question was if the stacks are mounted or braced in any way besides being clamped to the y pipe?

Thanks for any info that can help this young CTD owner out!

try MBRP for a stack kit, there pretty good quality. for the stacks themselves go to a heavy truck shop. They can get stacks in 4,5,6 or 8" and there cheap. when installing them you need to be careful of the y pipe. make sure there is a bracket on the bottom of the bed to hold the stacks up level and 1 on the bedsides to absorb the vibration. make sure you have a flex pipe under the truck. as for the back window, my stacks are about an inch in from the bedside. i have had no problems with the back window. however if you like being able to hear i wouldnt suggest sitting in the back seat. and having a conversation in the cab at times can be a near impossibility.

hope this helps

John

I have had stacks on my truck for a few years now. Really like them and the way they sound. They are clamped and attached at the upper edge of the box. They are also at least two inches from the rear glass with no issues at all. I prefer with the flow through muffler attached than without. I have a full 4" exhaust with 5" stacks. I the picture works you will be able to see how they look.
