Stacks with camper shell????

Alright fellas. Boared with my exhaust AGAIN. So I started thinking of some different things I could do. But realized my options are limited because I just made this move to Texas, and I have a ugly silver camper shell on my black truck. But anyway, I was thinking it would look kinda cool to run some stacks out the top of the shell, maybe in the back. In other words, instead of closest to the cab, closest to the tailgate. Then build some dimond plate enclosures around them to keep them from burning stuff up. See, I am in school for the next few years. I have put the construction on hold while I am going to college, so I really don't use my bed for all that much. Let me know what you guys think, I will try and draw something up for yall.

I wonder if they would melt the fiberglass on the shell?

I think that would look goofier than regular stacks

If you run a liner pipe inside the stacks you dont have to worry about melting anything. This is how the square box stack setups work, and i have seen trucks with soft bed covers against the stack with no heat problem. Something to think about. Randy

Not intending to steal my own thread, but don't yall get sick of seeing the same dang thing day after day. I mean being conservative and sticking with the norm is a good way to go. I mean, ya can't go wrong. But theres got to be a few of us out there, willing to work with some innovation. It was like three years ago when a few hardcore rockcrawlers decided to just throw black steels on their truck, cause they were sick of scratching up and bending their chrome aluminum rims. When those first black rims started coming out, everyone poo-pooed them. But now look at them, it is the norm to see black rims on trucks. Anyone agree with me here, or am I on a tangent all by myself.



And don't get me wrong, I am not even sure if I like this exhaust idea, I am simply entertaining the thought. Thinking of ways to innovate

If I ever stretch my frame to allow a long box to be installed on my truck, I have tossed around the idea of going 7-8" longer and running full length stacks between the box and the cab out at the corners just like a Semi with heat shields on them. I think it would look pretty sweet, but who knows! Different. That would be somthing that would allow some one with a topper to run stacks as well. I guess the think I like about it, I think it would still look cool, but also give you the entire box still.

See now. This is what I am talkin about. Some guys not scared to do something different. Lets not go so far as to chop off the extended cab and replace it with a fiberglass sleeper, but lets at least entertain the idea of new ideas.

Since you have the cap on, what about splitting the exhaust and running side pipes? I've never seen them on a Dodge Cummins.

Yeah, I like side pipes, you sure don't see em every day. And I like the looks of those stacks out the shell. I have a few different ideas on how to run them though, that would differ just a bit from the last pic above.

There was a video on here last week that showed a yellow cummins drag truck running in the 10's. In one of the shots they were filming out the back window. The truck had a hard bed cover and a black bumble bee stipe going all around the tail, and coming out of the stripes were two stacks about 4 inches tall. Different but cool at the same time.
