I did a search of stacks but did not hear to much about putting mufflers on. I would like to use 5" stacks with 4" pipe through the bed. It's the area from the 3" header to the 4" 90 that is attached to the 'Y' pipe that I'm needing help with. I would like to use a 4" flow through type muffler with flex pipe. Most of the mufflers I have found are 10 " round! I don't think their is room to fit that in there. My wife will be asking me if I spent $$$ on heated seats!

If someone has done this please help. . Pics, or p/n of muffler. Thanks, Ken

P. S. also looking for best prices on stacks. seams their about $50 bucks higher here in FL.

Stumphumper;

When I installed the stacks, I went with a straight pipe. That lasted about 3 weeks before my ears started ringing :eek: . I installed a Walker 4" straight through muffler. It actually fit fine. Now, there are (were) two sizes of Walkers, one is a little longer and skinnier, try that one. Sorry, I don't have the part number. One thing you can do is go to a muffler shop and get the part numbers and try and find the width of the muffler(s). Go home and cut out a ring of cardboard that is the width on the outside and the diameter of the current pipe on the inside. Cut a slice in one side and put it around the current pipe. Slide it back and forth on the pipe for the length of the muffler, if it clears, so will the muffler. When I installed my Walker, I did this to insure it would fit, because it dang sure looked to wide!

Hope this helps;

Josiah

I went to a truck shop that did general maintenance and muffler work. I bought all my supplies there minus a muffler. I bought 4" Y and ells since I had to go over diesel tank and up to miss 50 gal propane tank. I too ran about 3 weeks straight piped untill I installed a 4" straight through walker muffler. In town straight piped is really cool but long stretches of haulling butt, it gets too loud.

Dynomax makes a 4" straight through muff, it's about 14" long, and about 5" dia. , I have it installed with my stacks, no drone, cost was about $40.

What do you do about the soot shower effect? Or have you not had any rain lately?

I'm possibly getting stacks in the next month, if not then this summer and now I'm leaning towards slants instead of Bull Haulers but I'm concerned about turning my white beauty into a hoelstien look-a-like:rolleyes: :{

bigugly,

I did the cutout cardboard thing to see if i could slide my 3 inch muffler up their until i find a 4 incher. That's when i got concerned that a I needed to do some huntin for a smaller diameter. Thanks for the info... knowing that someone out there has done it , then I know I can do too. See ya on the Highway!

I have dual slant stacks on my truck and while rain is a pain in the butt, i just drilled three small holes in the exaust, (my stacks run outside the bed so it doesnt drain on my fuel tank) one at the end of my chrome elbow and one at he bottom of the 90' elbow taking it up over the frame. This allows drainage and thus eliminating the soot shower. i am talking VERY small holes and none of them are in the chrome. Concidering I have a total of 15' of chrome stacks (since both are completely exposed)

Addressing the soot problem,I keep my truck under a carport at home. I had to lower the stacks a few inches when I put my 36" tires on. I can change out the slants very easily and not too expensive if I get bored with them. When at work I put small plastic buckets over them. It looks cool when I hit the remote start and blow the buckets up a few feet. The holes drilled also sounds like a good idea. The soot shower is definitly a problem but not too bad. I have all the materials to make flames come out my stacks , but haven't had time to complete yet.

ok on the flame throwing note. ive always wanted to do that especially since i put my stacks on the truck. but for one im not totally sure how its done. i mean i have a vague idea but not completely. but if what i think is right there is no way on god green earth i am drilling holes in my perfectly good chrome. so if anyone know how to set up the flame throwing idea with out drilling into my chrome pipes let me know. im not afraid do so with the other piping. thanks.

Got Smoke and others - I think it was BigSaint that did this but am not sure, a quick search should verify. There is a cap that you can get for your stacks, Stack Cap or something like that. Saint has one and I think a Air Force guy sent him one of those tags they put on jets - "Remove before Flight". Pretty cool and I think solves the shoot shower on the slant cut stacks. If you can't find it let me know. take it easy

It was Scott (Bigsaint) he got it from www.Iowa80.com wasn't a bad price either, and yeah somebody sent him that funny tape, AFTER he launched his stack cap 15ft into the woods upon start up. !:-laf

Reguardless if I get slants or Bull Haulers I think I'm gonna get a pair of stack hats and put them on a single string. :D

I wish I

still had the torp tag "TO ARM, REMOVE PIN BEFORE LOADING". Used to have them for the DASH Drones torps... ... . :p

Da disel-less SOTSU!!
