Has anybody out there ran a pdr stage 3 cam? I am fighting a low end loss of power. I used to have a ton of low end torque and power with my old motor. My new motor comes alive at 2200 rpms and pulls to redline like a bat out of hell! But off idle its a smoke show and a pig to say the least. I have tried different timing from 17 to 26 degrees. I have tried different injectors and dv valves. No luck. The smoke comes out of the pipe really lazy and falls to the ground. No velocity at all. I have checked and rechecked for boost leaks. I have tried a s300 and a hx40/16 turbos on top. I now run a 23 housing on the bottom charger to aid in a little smoke control. From what i was told the pistons have been cut 50 thou to allow clearance for the stage 3 cam. I am about to ready to pull my hair out. Its a shame when my ford 6. 9 auto can wax this thing from a standing start to 50 mph... . TIA... ... ... ... ... . Brad

Sounds about like mine too but mine is a little easier to deal with. It seems to take about 100-125 degrees more EGT to get the same boost level and that does pose an issue running as big of injector as I do. I typically run between 22-26 degrees of timing for the street but I'm not in Cali so I can deal with a little more rudeness. So that is low end driving around, now get it rolling at RPM and it is all over the place... ... . try passing 90 MPH and the tires are still raddling! Bottom line is it likes RPM and no it's not a towing setup. I don't think the lower compression is an issue as mine will bump start at will!

I've been thinking about this Ponci Sr. :D What I've come up with are those big ole tires and wheels also add to the lack of umph down low maybe you should try some stockers. Jeff

P. S. Just wondering, how much do you think you'd take for those big heavy tires and wheels :)

to tell the truth, 17º to 26º is really a lot of advance, not for twins if you have a spring kit, but the higher you go in timing º, the less bottom end your gonna have try bumping it down to 15º once see if you like your bottom end... your not going to like your top end though. you win some, you lose some

I found the problem. I changed the cam to a different grind and it made a world of difference. The bottom end is back and better than ever. Now all i have to do is fine tune everything.

To clairify what cam i did change to it is a PDR camshaft. Talking to Piers we came to the conclusion that the cam grind wasn't for my application. However he wanted me to do some testing on a different grind. I now run a PDR 3rd gen stage 1 cam. I must say that the cam comes alive off idle and pulls like a bat out of hell to 3500 rpms. :D The smoke issue is resolved and the turbo spoolup is incredible. Oo. The turbo cool down time is very quick compared to the stage 3 cam. The egt at cruise speed is 100 to 125 degrees cooler. :) Piers will have a camshaft page with specs on his web page very soon. I will have a milage report to follow in the next few weeks.

No, it's a stage one, designed to go with stock pistons. We can't change the lift very much, most of the mods are done with duration & timing

A solid 1. 5mpg better, about a 75 degree drop in usable egt's & it spools the turbo/turbo's about a 100 rpm quicker.

What's up Brad? Now it's personal, us against him. But he's got an ace (Ken) in the hole, that's a tough one to beat.

What new toys, give us some info!!!!!!!!

Glad to see all those 12v's at the top of the list, again!! The 94 Chevy 12v drop in is just further proof of correct valving.

Jerred,

What are you doing wasting time on the internet... ... aren't you supposed to be finding all the good fishing spots for the next visit??? :)

Actually, I should be working... .

Not a problem. The guys who know aren't as tight lipped about where the fish are like some guys are (jeff) about how they're truck makes power:-laf

So, Piers, whats the damage on one of these? I am in northern washington right now doing a job, so how far am I from ya? Im in Anacortes.

Give me a call, as I don't want to break any rules by posting prices. They are on our website if you want to have a look there.

Thanks for the info, and thanks a ton for taking the time to talk with me this morning about my clutch issues. You know, its not often when dealing with companies these days you can go straight to the top for info. Thanks for looking out for the customer! I think when we pull the clutch back out we will do a cam as well! :D
