Where can I buy stainless brake rotors? Are drilled rotors really better than stock? Is it better to just get mine turned?

Mine are worn pretty good and have that familiar sharp rusted edge around the outside that digs into the pads. I always hammer that edge off when I do any brake work or have the wheels off for anything, but with the stupid inspection here in Pa. , they think the rotors need turned or replaced. Back in Ohio they would go for several more years without a problem.

Thanks,

I'm not sure there would really be any advantage to stainess steel rotors. The pads polish them clean daily anyway.

I wouldn't go with drilled rotors, but I would go with slotted ones. The slots are machined to the minimum thickness usually so you can tell when they are done. The slots sweep away gasses that can build up under heavy braking. Drilled ones can and usually will develop cracks which would definately raise eyebrows with the inspection guys.

Don't turn them, replace them, that is my advice.

Around here they rust like crazy. If you park your truck overnight, the rotors will have a film of rust on them in the morning. Each day adds up. The worst rust is around the inside and outside edges where the pad doesn't quite touch.

My problem is that I now have a company truck that I drive all week, so my truck sits for five days and is run on the weekends. Sometimes by the weekend, my rotors are rusted so bad, I get a "thump" sound and a jerk when I go to move the truck as the pads are stuck to the rotors.
