I know it has been a while since I have talked about these units, but the time has come, I finally finished them and they are working to the best of the designs ability. :D

Some time ago I posted a picture of a replacement cover for the guys that are running the Psychotty Air System. it is made of 18ga. Stainless steel and I am selling them either fully polished or with a matte (bead blasted) finish. or I will sell them raw (unfinished) for you industrious types. shown below :D

I have run mine now for about six months. I have Dynoed with it, and compared it back to back with just Scotty style. the results were within 1HP and the difference wasn’t toward either one. on two runs with it, I netted 310HP/673trq and 309. 7HP/676trq and without it, I had 308. 5HP/675. 7trq and 311. 8 HP those were done on my truck with a Power Max 3 on level 8 and 4inch exhaust. using a K&N RE0880 that’s it.

when towing I use level 6 and can run up a hill with 4K behind me @30PSI & 1050F EGT's. Max EGT's to date have been 1450 in fifth gear, level 9, @WOT from 65-90MPH(with injectors too), it was still climbing both speed and Temp. when I let off.

it will fit the same hole as the Psychotty and reuse the K&N or AFE equivalent. I have metered it with a MAP sensor in the intake tube downstream of the canister/before turbo, and the readings have been between 3. 8V and 4. 3V which on a scale equals 80-87kPa sorry no flow bench results. the only one I can find only flows 250CFM.

if interested, Email me for ordering info

Nice looking piece. Too bad I can't use one.

Ya know, another market you might try is the import cars. They could use it as a tail pipe coming off of their 1. 5" tailpipe. Bet you could get a lot of sales from them:rolleyes: :D

Slit's

Todd,

Didn't you make one before that had slit's cut in it on the side away from the turbo to draw some air in from under the hood as well ?

is this the unit where you have to cut a hole to get the air from the vent intake?

How much are you selling these for? Polished is my option I would like.

is there any mods for the mounting of this air filter holder?

Looks good though

Eric

Yes, the first few I made had slots in them. from the comments I got on them, the slots were not liked so I found a way around needing them. they were also made out of aluminum before.

And thanks evan, they actually can be a PSA replacement. these are Stainless Steel and will shine like a new dime when you polish them. the first one I made was for my personal truck. it was made out of aluminum, had 8 slots cut down the sides, used a RE-0860 which is 12"L and used a five inch hole located more toward the center of the truck. it worked great and everyone that saw it, wanted one. as the life cycle evolved it was suggested that I make them so the guys that already had the PSA or even, just the K&N RE-0880 could use my box without having to drop MORE money for a different filter. so i started to research the best way to make them, I went through several changes and finally with these I have come up with a solution to the lack of dress up equipment for the 24v trucks. And I have tried to utilize the hole and filters these guys already have in their trucks. instead of leaving them with the choice of sticking with what they had, or scrapping the $60-$80 in parts plus leaving them with a hole in their trucks.

Thanks to you to Kirt, very surprising reply...

Majestic--- The Pot Calling the Kettle Black, comes to mind.

this may not be YOUR first choice and that is YOUR right. but being insulting is another thing.

Go get 'em Todd!

If Scott never patented his PSA, is it really a ripoff?

Todd, I was thinking the same thing as you when I read Kirt's reply. hmmm

I would be curious if Scott P had been able to spend the Bucks it takes to patent his design. That if yours which is the same size, Style, Performs the same but is made in a different material would hold up to the patent rights.

I have posted to this for a couple of reasons.

I know the R&D costs and time involved in new products. Often if you spend the time and effort to patent a design you can miss the market. With Scotts and other Inventors of products they are often more concerned with getting the product out for us consumers to enjoy.

It is one thing to make your own product (Similar to a existing design) that you feel is better than someone else's and use it on your truck. It is different to produce the same product (IMO) and bad mouth the inventors product as I have heard from different sources has been going on.

For just a simple understanding of patent rights as I understand them. Your product needs to Perform differently (Generally better)and have a difference in design by 20%. Not be a different color.

I post from the Heart and from what I feel is Honest Business sense. I would not do anthing in Business that I would not like done to myself.

If Scott, "REALEASED" you to copy his design then Fine. I will ask his opinion. And may retract my posts.

John,

if we all had to patent our designs before we could realease them we would all suffer. The dodge CTD people are for the most part Great bunch of people. That I think drives some of the members coming up with Improved Products to realease them ASAP for all to enjoy.

I hate any kind of Squabbling that goes on here on tdr. and for that reason I am sorry I posted my Opinion and Feelings on this subject.

As for majestic "Calling the kettle black" I don't follow your meaning. If you are insuating something we would all like to be clear on what you have to say.

Thank's

I think you missed my point,

I built the first one for me. it went on my truck and was used by me. I showed it to some people and they wanted one. again, as it evolved, it became an alternative for the PSA. I am not in business, I dont feed my family off of these sales. I just tried to offer what the people wanted at a reasonable price to quality ratio.

my units cost me $70 apiece to have them made. i am only making about $20 dollars on each one that is sold. hardly worth my time and if anyone can do better I will gladly hand over the torch and supply you with my Fabrication shop and their phone number.

now that I have the rule book updated, I'll be sure I never make anything that looks like anything else, again. next I'll take out my extrude honed (Bosch rip-off) injectors, then I guess I better find a new head that hasnt been ripped off from Cummins and then my beloved LUK rip off clutch. do I see a trend here. does this mean I cant machine my turbo out either? or is all of this OK as long as I sign up for the Good OL Boy's Club first.

ripping off someone elses design seems to be a norm these days ...

todd if i remember correctly you offered this as an upgrade to scott , but because of timing with an injury he was battling or something he blew you off ? there was a big ruckus over this then .

after having been on the recieving end of a majestic turbo i can't imagine anyone ripping them off

Personally, I'm glad to see that Todd did this. My PSA split from stem to stern at 3 weeks of age because it's made from cheap plastic with a lousy seam and has been held together with several large wire ties ever since. This new design looks more like what the original should have been in terms of ruggedness and looks. Ripoff? no way - Improvement? definitely!

Let me start by saying that I do not sell any products from any of the vendors, I merely by them. In my opinion,TDR members are by far the most loyal bunch of guys I have ever met. When we find a product that works for us or a vendor who treats us much better than we could possibly imagine, which by the way there are many of them out there. we will stick by them no matter what. On the opposite side of the same coin though, when we find a better, or presumed better product or vendor, we are not afraid to try it or them. I had looked at Scott's air box, but didn't care for the plastic construction. Nothing against Scott or his product, I just didn't feel comfortable with replacing plastic with plastic. I believe I was one of the first ones to see Todd's airbox. I immediately liked the fact that it was made of something other than plastic. The fact that it was based on Scott's concept, which is a stroke of Genius in my mind, made it even better. The old find a good product and make it better approach. I asked Todd if he would build me one for my truck. He made me one out of stainless steel, which when polished really adds to the underhood appearance of our Rams. I personally do not believe Todd set out to replace Scott's product, but to merely add another dimension to an already great product. I feel there is room for both Scott and Todd's products in this marketplace, just as there is room for Edge, TST, Blue Chip and JVD which, in my mind are all the same product in as much they all add fuel to our systems. I apologise for the longwinded post, but I had to insert my two cents worth. For what it's worth Todd, Sell your product without feeling you stole someone elses ideas. You merely improved on it.

Don Quaethem

If anyone would like to E-Mail me, I will be happy to tell you what Todd will sell you a polished airbox for.

Todd, Looking at the picture I don't think your opening is large enough. What is it 3" or so. I have modified my Scotty Air System(formerly PSA) end opening it up as much as I could and still get it to seal the firewall. The break point is going to happen some where around 325 HP. I have thought about this alot and and think that this only effects HP on the Dyno because of the Ram effect we get running down the road.

I have also insulated my PSA housing and this had brought my EGTs towing down another 50 deg. Yours will suck in more heat .

Only here is my opinion on being a rip off... The american way is to always make or try to make a better mouse trap. Time will tell if this is really better other than looks(Does look good:D ). Here is my problem with this... . You say you don't have a business and this keep the web site guide line at bay. But you are making money selling them!!! This sir is a business unlicenced or not you should fall under the same guide lines as other here. Evan was kick off for a time and he just was an employee and promoting products. You should have to live with the same guide lines.

I wish you the best of luck Todd. But for me it will be a Scotty Air System:cool:

Kurt V... . did you ever E-mail Scotty about a defective product ? I know Scott and his business practice is to try to satisfy all customers 100% [not always do-able, a clutch thread is an example]. .

If you have bad product he would not want you hung out to dry either. .

if you need his e-mail link e-mail me

I wasn't wanting to reply to this thread but after reading all of the comments I thought I had to. Todd has a different product in that it is made out of stainless steel . The product looks similiar to Scott's box in that it serves the same function of covering the air filter. I see no difference in wanting a CHROME or RED or BLACK valve cover for your engine. It serves the same purpose but is different in color for people's own individual taste's. You can't make the CHROME valve cover square the RED one oval and the BLACK one a triangle and expect them to work the same. If someone wants a black plastic cover then buy that. If someone wants stainless steel then buy that. THE CHOICE IS UP TO YOU!

well thanks for your support guys, I was begining to feel like I should crawl under a rock and die. :D

Drawson, the inlet on these is 3 7/8" that is about the max that will fit through the grommet on the firewall. I would love for anyone to take one of these and flow it. I have searched high and dry to find a flow bench capable. I have about 380HP right now and it does just fine.

lets not turn this into a Scotty bashing event

I went there on few other posts and it wasnt too pretty. I have appologized to Scott for it, and I would like forgiveness from anyone else that I offended. I believe Scott has taken this all in stride and should be commended. I also believe there is room in this world for all of us. :D so lets not chew sooo much :D

Kurt V. follow the advice given before, call Scott or where ever you got yours from (if from a Vendor) and get it replaced.

I know Scott had some trouble with a supplier and he has that fixed now. give him a call. :D
