Thanks for your input on the air box mods and such. I've been trying to figure out this site and may be getting it. I took my '01 HO six-speed in for recall work and the techs said it may need a new fuel filter since it was near 30,000 miles. They noticed the same stall or burp I noticed at about 2500 rpm. I had read the TDR and am just hoping it isn't a lift pump or anything else more major. I changed the filter saturday and it still has the burp. One time it did and one time it didn't. Its going to the shop to get warranty work done tuesday and have the issue looked at further. Anyone have any ideas. Also I've heard people say the motor needs backpressure and straight piping will foul up the settings and damage the motor is this a concern? I left the resinator? on and just removed the muffler. What about the turbo silencer ring?

Yep, nope, nope, nope

Welcome aboard!!

I would say it is the lift pump causing the stall/burp at that rpm. I have seen it with two other trucks that I have diagonsed lift pump failures with my test gauge.

As far as I know the cummins does not need any back pressure to run properly. There are a lot of rigs out there running straight pipes or stacks with no mufflers. It would be fine to run without the muffler and leave the resonator on. I did for awhile before I upgraded to 4". As far as the silencer ring goes, if you like the turbo whistle, take it out. It makes no difference in economy or power, just noise.

Good luck, Jim

I 2nd the lift pump. When mine went it was a noticable hiccup probably about that speed, usually just about to the end of the on ramp it was running low on fuel. Back out of the throttle and it smoothed right out.

Straight pipes are wonderful. Leave the silencer ring out too, it makes a better deer whistle than those cheap plastic jobs. ;)
