man, my truck is sick!!

started it yesterday and all was well. backing out of my driveway it started idling real rough. when i drove it, it sputtered and surged and finally stalled when i got to the stop sign! while this was happning, my tach would go dead! i unplugged my powermax and checked the connection on my Van Aaken. still did it! any ideas? TIA... james

I had a car act like that. Tach would drop out then fuel gage then other dash indicators then the car stalled (i think the fuel pump relay). the end results... the alternator had fail and the battery were drained. Do you have 13-14 volts across your batteries when engine is running?

Sounds a bit like the cam or crank position sensor went out. 2001 and newer trucks only have one sensor under the injector pump. It's hard to get at but it's cheap to fix.

Crank sensor. It's in the driver-side lower block, you have to remove the starter to get to it. $45 bucks from Cummins.

When my Dad's crank position sensor died in his 98. 5 the dashboard when out. His truck never stalled, and he actually thought it ran better... you may have more than one problem but one of them is probably the crank pos sesor.
