My truck stalled at 45 mph in 4th and seemed like it just shut off. I coasted in gear down to about 35 mph and it took right off no more problems, starts good ,has good power in all gears, all speeds. Any ideas what caused this? The check eng light was on for a few days but its off now. Good fuel pressure . (10-12lbs)98 5 speed 3500, stock except for supper chip , tow safe. Does water in the fuel sometimes cause this? thanks Otis

Usually, water in the fuel won't cause this. First you would get the WIF light illuminated. Second, if there is water in the fuel, and it was stopping up the filter, it would just shut down once the engine was starved of fuel. You have a 12V, right.

I may not be able to get the codes . Shortly after the check engine light came on I broke the output shaft in half . I was going mabey 5mph in first through a truck stop and the shaft broke right where the fifth gear nut was welded. The shop welded it in 4 places and it weakend the shaft and broke clean in half at the welds. The shop that put in a new shaft (1300 bux )I think may have cleared the codes as the check eng light was off when they finished. It runs really good now but ill have the dealership scan it. I got a slug of water in the fuel a month ago. The light never lit but my fuel pressure gauge dropped from 13 to 5 suddenly. Had the filter changed and Iv had good fuel pressure. Is ther any way to tell if the VP 44 has ever been replaced? I looked at it tonight and the bolts dont look like they have ever been off. everything looks factory org. when it stalled there was no resistance in the pedal at all. then it came back to life and has ran fine ever since

I'd say the best bet to tell if the "VP was ever changed" is what you've already observed. What are the miles on it? I've got 145k and as far as I know it's the original VP - although I purchased from a Dodge dealer w/75k. The original owner traded it in on a gasser - duh? His loss my gain.
