I have a problem in that the engine wants to and sometime does stall. This happens when it is put into gear or sometimes at a stop. This only happens when the a/c is on,and doesnt always act up. The trans is an automatic, anybody have any ideas. Thanks in advance.

Midnite,

You idle speed should be @ 750-800 rpms with the A/C on, and the trans in Drive. If its lower than this adjust it.

A bad overflow valve can cause a rough idle & stalling. Especially in hot weather.

Let us know if you need tech help on how to check/adjust these.

Mine did the same thing especially when I tow. Every time I took my foot off the throttle while trying to park camper it would stall. AC was always on-its Florida here for crying out loud. Adjusted idle up and it took 3 times before I was happy-easy to do-if you got small hands. Threaded rod going to rear area of injector pump (have someone work throttle and you'll see it just behind pump)has nuts on either end-loosen nuts and turn rod-shortening will increase idle-add 200rpm and try that. Idle seems to vary with engine temp so thats why it took 3 adjustments to get it right. :D

I just experienced the same problem last week sitting in traffic w/AC on. Hemi, can you explain what the overflow valve is? I'm a new to TD's, but I like to do most of my own work. Thanks.

Racer,

See this thread for more info: http://dodgeram.org/tech/dsl/troubleshooting/injector_pump.htm#Overflow

This is not a very good picture, but the tag is on the overflow valve, Its a bango type fuel return line. The new old one just screws out. Its a real easy fix. Don't lose the 2 rubber/metal washers. The Front of the pump is where the word 'Fig 10' is. In the tag picture, the front of the pump is to the right.

You really should have a fuel pressure gauge to check it. But if yours is still the OE one, I'll bet its worn. The spring that holds the check ball loses its strength over time.

I highly recommend getting a new overflow valve from Piers. It is much cheaper (1/2 the price) from him than the Bosch or Dodge dealer.

Here are 66 threads that have overflow valve info: https://www.turbodieselregister.com...hid=9993&sortby=lastpost&sortorder=descending
