Trouble Code P0628

Hi Guys
Coming to the answer guys again. Inquiring for a friend. He has a 05 auto that's throwing
po88 code says the pressure is to high in fuel rail. He put it on a new Snappy monitor and
couldn't get it to screw up. Doesn't matter how he drives it just dies, but restarts instantly.
Any help would be appreciated

Not being a smart a** but why does the friend not cough up the $35.00 and ask his own questions. I have just seen enough of these posts over the years and people mooching off others and not paying their share for their problems. Nothing personal but there is more than enough of this going on anymore.

There is, but, we are a kinder gentler forum so we answer anyway. :)

Try swapping in a new FCA as a starting point. The dying is a good indication something is not working right in the fuel delivery system, the code also indicates that could be the issue.

Ohm, my Truck runs with disconnect FCA, rough but it runs.
Could the PRV from the FP also gone bad together with the FCA?

Thanks for answer, I'm learning all the time about my Trucks behavior.

Yes I know and have answered many a question. I am getting old and cranky :-laf. If you can afford to own one of these and the fuel, $35.00 for the wealth of knowledge here is the best money ever spent.

PRV is responsible for keeping the pressure below max limits. If it is sticking and allowing pressure to go high, whole lot of other problems going on.

The max limit is 23k on the 600 series engines and the PRV is set to pop at 26.5k so it could code with rail pressure high and not pop the PRV.

Cannot argue that at all. :)

I cheerfully pay $35.00 a year for this forum, it's like my personal Diesel Wikipedia...........

Ouch consider me whipped! I don't overly use this forum won't happen again.

Cerberuisam The only thing I didn't get was FCA, Thanks ahead of time for everything.

Ah, don't worry about it. We are a kinder, gentler bunch as Cerb said.

Your friend really should join up,, it's a nice forum.

The FCA is a good place to start.

Yes its a great forum and I will talk to him about joining, I drop flyers all the time if I have them.
But I still need to know what FCA means, Thanks .

My comment was not directed at you, sorry if it came across that way. I have people wanting this kind of thing all the time and it is very tiring. This has become the give me, give me society.

FCA is fuel control actuator. It is the only electrical connection on the back of the CP-3. It is a PWM solenoid responsible for letting fuel into the high pressure side of the CP-3 to control rail pressure.
They stick and wear over time causing a stall at idle because they don't let enough fuel in, and, go to open too long and you get high rail pressure.

CR do not conform to logic, they conform to experience , High rail may be just the symptom, You can actually can get high rail pressure codes form to low rail pressure. Many trucks do to age and use are showing signs of wear form component's needing replacement. I cannot count how many times that parts replacement were based on x logic, just to find out that combination of component's are causing the problems.
Generally when FCA/FPR are tried and causing problem they will do it at idle Miss/loop. FCA/FPRs are @ highest voltage and cycle when idling so its weakest point to cause problems. If you have good idle it would be the exception for the FCA/FPR to cause driving problems.
